Hey guys,
I just downloaded FS2 open and STL, and it crashes everytime I launch into either campaign (STL or origins), the original FS2 campaign is working as far as I can tell.
It says Error: Can't open model file <fighter02.pdf>
File:J:\src\fs2_open_3_6_9.final\code\Model\ModelRead.cpp
I'm not very computer literate, so I don't know what's going on.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure Shrouding the Light needs FSPort. Do you have it and are you using it properly?
-
I forgot to install it....thanks.
-
I've install FSport and it runs, but now it crashes during the opening cutscene. This is also the case for the original campaign and STL origins, so I assume there's a larger problem. Thanks in advance.

Download the Recommended build for Windows users from my signature. Extract the contents to your FreeSpace2 folder. Run fs2_open_3_6_10_debug.exe. Find fs2_open.log in \freespace2\data\. Post it here either as an attachment or using the "code" tags.

Do you have the Shrouding the light v.303 patch? It should be in a file labelled STLOrigins_303.vp. You should not have a file labelled BR_STL.vp in the folder. if you do it will not work. You may have the optional voice file labelled BR_STLv.vp.
-
No, there's nothing with that name in the folder. I tried to go to the campaign website for the patch and the release thread, but so far I can't find it (the website wouldn't open). I managed to get through the cutscenes by using 3.6.10, but nows its just crashing in mission.

dl this one http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.235 (http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.235)
it has all the SCP fixes and more... should run out of the box :)

Time to revise the instructions.
1. Select fs2_open_3_6_10_debug.exe with the Launcher as your current build.
2. Run the game.
3. When the game crashes or you reach the Main Hall, quit.
4. Find fs2_open.log in \freespace2\data\.
5. Post the log here as an attachment or using the "code" tags.
Like this.
Or try the version suggested by Tinman.

Umm that's the version of STL that i downloaded originally, but I'll try it again anyway.
Here the log, and thanks again for the help.

Initializing OpenGL graphics device at 640x480 with 16-bit color...
Initializing WGL...
Requested WGL Video values = R: 5, G: 6, B: 5, depth: 16, double-buffer: 1
Actual WGL Video values = R: 8, G: 8, B: 8, depth: 16, double-buffer: 1
OpenGL Vendor : Intel
OpenGL Renderer : Intel 845G
OpenGL Version : 1.3.0 - Build 4.14.10.3924
We meet again, Intel. :fistshake:
You could check for newer graphics drivers at the Intel website. Also, are you absolutely sure that you want to play at 640x480 and with 16-bit colours? The colours especially might cause funkiness. Switch them to 32-bit. And seriously, at least try 1024x768.
Found root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\fsport3_0_4.vp' with a checksum of 0xe550591d
1. There should be more FSPort files.
2. Move them to \freespace2\fsport\. Every mod must reside in its own subfolder. Like STL and the MediaVPs are right now.
-
I redownloaded FSPort off the website and thats all the files there are. I did download the sparky_hi_fs1 as well but it didnt seem to help. I already thought it was at 32-bit and 1024, so shows what I know. Everyone time I start it up it says it cant find Interceptor#Weak in the weapons table.
-
Hmm. I did a test run and STL works like a charm. So... just for kicks, run the debug once more and post the fs2_open.log here.
-
Here's the log. On just 3_6_10 i did run the first 3 missions, but it crashed at the next cutscene.
I tried to run the main campaign as well and it crashed too, whatever that means.

You are still missing stuff. Try downloading everything FSPort related, except the ported campaigns and maybe the ultra-high-res textures. I'd guess they shouldn't make a difference, but I have them and everything has always worked.
Have you tried creating a new pilot? Your current one might be corrupted.
-
I did try to create new pilots, it didn't seem to help. I did download off the fsport website except for the mystery videos, patches and ported campaigns but nothing is helping. There seems to be something wrong with the whole setup, since even using the tech database will cause it to crash. Should I try to reinstall everything?
-
This may be your problem. See this post. http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,55772.0/topicseen.html
-
It might be. But this occured significantly earlier (relatively speaking) than the other complaints about the Installer. But yeah. I'm running out of ideas. It's not too wrong to try a complete reinstall.
