I'm playing through the FS2 main campaign on Hard and trying to see how many capital ships I can earn kills for.
So far I've managed to nab quite a few (like the Hawkwood) that are finished off by friendly beam fire, simply by putting a few missiles into them.
I'm stuck on the Repulse. Can't manage to avoid the Colossus getting the kill, due to its plethora of blob turrets.
Anyone else tried this?
-
Arm the Akheton SDG and kill the Colossus' turrets?

:wtf:
Maybe you could park yourself behind the Repulse and open fire.
-
Maybe it might work, but unless the Rampart destroys the NTF cruisers, you will be too busy avoiding fighter-beams plus NTF Lokis to have easy fire on the Repulse on Hard difficulty.
-
on hard, you got the ravana? and the sathanas?? damn! how about the belasarius?... It's almost impossible to stay alive in some missions man! (or maybe It's me and my sucking flying)
why dont you try to make a new mission where you are supposed to kill lots of capital as fast as you can and then you make a contest out of it ^^
-
The Belisarius is probably the easiest, pop three or for Rockeyes into it at long range and you get the kill (because beam weapons are counted as a separate damage type to normal weapons and turrets, for some reason)
-
Adds "$include beams for kills and assists" to Battuta's ai_profile to spoil his fun. :p

Grargh!

Actually, no -- both cruisers usually get taken out, and even if they aren't, I can end-run around them to reach the Repulse. Then I do park myself behind the Repulse and open fire, using Hornets and a Subach/Prometheus R combo. The problem is that the Colossus can do more damage in the same span of time using its forward blobs.
I could try disarming those...it's worth a shot. But I kind of want to move on. (I even disarmed the Rampart's fusion mortar, because it kept taking the kill.)
And yes, I did manage to get the Ravana, but, y'know, I might've forgotten the Belisarius. Next time!
-
The Belisarius is easy to get.
-
Damn people, you are talking about cap ships... how do you do to take down an Orion with just hornets and prometheus???
that's not credible...
got the shivan cruisers coming through the Knosos in the first mission when the shivans appear in Gamma Draconis?
Also belisarius??? come on!! with just some rockets you'll not even scratch it!
well i've never tryed but seems improbable..
-
We're talking about getting the kill.
Which means doing 60% of the non-beam damage.
Not too hard since some ships get chopped up by beams very nicely.
-
Yeah. If it's a ship that's going to be taken out by beams, all you have to do is deal the majority of the non-beam damage.
Kind of minigame. I'm sure the capital ship gunnery crews are frustrated.
-
ohh oh... beam fire does not count.. so it would not be hard then I guess
-
I didn't get the Tiamat. I hate that mission.
But I did get the Order of Galatea, after about nineteen tries. Used EMPs and Stilettos hold off the bombers and destroy the Tiamat's beams, respectively. It's really hard to get close to a Moloch w/fighter escort on Hard.

Nevar. Use. The. Prometheus R.
Unless of course you can prove me it is of any use... :nervous:

Well, if nothing else, at least it gives some more challenge.

Getting the Belisarius is easy enough. There was one time I flew up and shot it several times before flying away. When the Psamtik fired its BVas, Alpha 2 went, "Objective neutralised!"
-
Once I made a mission for points to get to admiral. It didn't work, didn't get the admiral. So I went to play EaW. The next day I decided to replay the FS2 campaign using the beta mediaVPs. I emptied my tempests into the Belisarius. At debriefing, I got told "to go read a book".

Wait, wouldn't you have been promoted to like Vice Admiral or Rear Admiral before getting to Admiral just by killing the Belisarius, or does it go straight to Admiral.
-
I think it goes straight. If it went through all the ranks, the medal sidebar would be messed up.
-
No, I've actually reached the rank of Commodore (in FS1), and it doesn't. It goes all the way to the 4th space, then goes back to the first, but it's got a different color. If I still had FS1 installed I'd give you a screenshot.
-
Iirc, it went straight, cause i was already at the rank before it.

30%
-
Oh. only 30%? Even easier then!

I just finished the 64th Raptors chapter -- 'King's Gambit', 'Sicilian Defense', and 'Endgame.' Got kills for everything except one Deimos on 'Gambit', one Leviathan on 'Sicilian Defense', and the Danton on 'Endgame.'
