Title: 3DSM graphing plugin?
Post by: CP5670 on February 26, 2002, 10:17:26 am
Does anyone here happen to know of a 3DS max plugin (or an application that can save 3ds files) that allows the user to create curves and surface plots based on points from a math equation? (for example, something like z=e^{-cos[(x²+y²)^½]}*sin[(x²+y²)^½] ) I have a few programs that can do this but they cannot do certain types of equations and also do not display the result very well; the 3DS renderer should be able to do a better job. Thanks in advance.:)

hehe, I guess nobody knows...

I have Mathcad 2000i which produces pretty good graphs but the program is unstable - it crashes whenever I type in anything with a division sign (:p) and also messes up on graphs with complex roots. Aside from the technical issues, the main beef I have with it is that the interface for typing in equations is absolutely horrible; I can never type anything in right without making several mistakes, and trying to correct the errors messes it up even more.:p Otherwise, the graphs look fine:

It cannot do implicit plots though; the only program that I can find that is capable of 3D implicit graphing is something called NuCalc, but I am not willing to pay $60 on something that I have never heard of and has a completely useless demo.:p
