Title: Testing Turrets
Post by: Talon 1024 on August 17, 2008, 10:30:50 am
In one mission of my Landreich Campaign, the player has to help a capship to test out it's turrets and shielding.  Is there an SEXP that gets called true when one specific turret fires once? Is it possible to have that sort of thing?

I don't think there is.

You might have the turret fire at a 'test drone' that will die in one hit and use is-destroyed delay.

If there's a turret-fire sexp, you could script it to fire and validate the directive at the same time. Failing that, just lock them all, unlock the turret you want to fire and us ai-attack... :nervous:

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

Well, there's a beam-fire sexp, so there's probly a turret-fire sexp.

Except there isn't :( (well, at least not in the version of FRED I have)

I'm pretty sure fire-beam will fire any turret weather it be beam, blob, or missile.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, actually. But I'm not 100% sure. More like 98.657% sure.

Well, there's a beam-fire sexp, so there's probly a turret-fire sexp.
If you check the SCP Nodemap Roadmap, it's on the to-do list.

We'll I've used fire-beam to fire a Helios from a Fenris in FS2 multi (Retail) and use it to fire the anti-matter cannon on the VF Xill in TBP multi and it's not a beam weapon.  I know there are some quarks with missiles like you have to time the lock and reload with the firing loop.

I've boycotted the idea of having an event that gets called true when a turret fires once...  I'll use drones for testing instead.

I'm not entirely sure which ship to use for a drone, but if I had to decide, I'd go with the WCP nav buoy.
