Hello, couldn't find this specific topic:
I'm trying to play a custom campaign (in this case, The Aeos Affair V2.0) with Freespace 2 abandonware (V1.2), so there are no game cds. In the campaign list, it's there and selectable, but when I go back into the main menu screen (I guess it's a hangar bay with all the doors), I can't get through the doors to the campaign because the game asks for the Freespace 2 cd.
The full game also asks for the cd (because I couldn't download the separate cutscene files), but when prompted, I have the option of cancelling and I continue with the full game. With the custom campaign, however, there is no option to cancel.
I tried a download changing to an executable file which includes a no cd crack, but no luck.
Is freespace 2 abandonware set up differently than Freespace 2 retail, and what can I do to fix the issue to play this and other mods? (I've tried a couple of other custom campaigns and got the same result).
Thanks in advance.

HotU? Yeah, the no-cd crack there doesn't fully work. You can play the FS2 campaign, but any custom mods won't let you proceed without a cd.
Solution? FreeSpace_Open. See this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,55772.0.html) for installation instructions. Note that you can skip the first step, since you already have the retail game itself. Just continue from there on.

Hello again,
I've down loaded Freespace Open. When I go into the launcher, and try to open fs2_open_3_6_9 in the browser, I get the error message "This application has failed to start because OpenAl32.dll was not found". The file is in the main Freespace 2 folder as per the FS2 Open installation instructions.
Are there supposed to be .dll files in the main directory? Because I don't see any.

Install OpenAL (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/latest/oalinst.exe). My bad. I didn't take into concideration that installing OpenAL was listed before installing FS2 on the instructions.

Works great! Thanks again.
