i finally made the decision to return to phoenix. gonna book a flight as soon as the bank sends me my credit card. so essentially im going off the net for awhile. it will be some time before i can get online since i will need to start looking for work asap. i figure i will have 3 months of rent so i should have some time to find work.
before i leave though im gonna upload all my nukemod source files and the current dev version, just in case tsa mistakes my gaming rig for a bomb and has the bomb squad blow it up. not that i wont back that data up in at least 5 other ways. these files will be accessible to everyone. it will be everything, my expirimental scripts and so on, even my lesser known mod projects. perhaps source for the freespace rts if aardwolf doesnt object. i will post urls to this stuff sometimes before my internet bill runs out.
once there i will look into starting an engineering degree program, assuming i can get another loan. ive not abused my credit so i should have no problem getting one. hopefully i can get away from all unwanted distractions and do some modding as well. theres always the chance that i will totally **** up really bad and endup just being a bum, but i doubt it.
so anyone here live in or around phoenix? i know a couple totally awesome bars down there.

Alaska just too damn cold in the winter?
-
Maybe Alaska just sucks, cold winters no real work. ugh.

I don't live there, but I've been there. :D
I highly recommend seeing these buggers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-haj3RU69hk

As a desert-dweller myself (not Arizona, but South-West USA), I can honestly say that the dry heat of the desert is infinitely preferable to humidity of any kind, or to colder temperatures in general. Personally, I think we've got the best weather anywhere: hot summers, cool (but not frozen) winters, many cloudless sunny days, few rainstorms.
Although... wind. Wind + desert = dusty. That's not too fun. The one bad thing about this climate. :doubt:
-
Do you get actual dust storms fairly often down there or is it more of that low-lying blowing sand/dust that stings and goes everywhere?
And yar, humidity combined with heat is a *****. If you move southeast I hope you like swimming... in the air.
-
A true dust storm is actually a very rare occurance. Generally the wind just picks up little stinging bits of dust though, which is irritating.
-
I like the sun once in a while, but i much much much prefer cold wet windy days. Bracing weather just wakes me up and i get all "WHOOPWHOOPWHOOP!!!"

Yeah, dekker has lost his mind, it's official. At least he hasn't lost his spleen and other various internal organs...
-
Just sections. Scars and burn tissue have healed up quite nicely. Cosmetic surgery for the win
Back to my weather preference. I can now justify: field conditions, in extreme heat the most you can do is strip down. Even then you'd still boil. In extreme cold you just bung a jumper on.
-
flight booked, november 1st. no more ****ty alaskan weather yay!
-
Instead you get ****ty Arizonian weather yay!
:p
EDIT: In all seriousness, the dry heat/bitter cold in phoenix isn't all that bad, is it?
-
**** phoenix is awsome, like when youre drunk and the bar closes its the perfect weather to walk home in. here you try that stunt youl catch hypothermia and die :D
-
I get the impression it's gonna be similar to walking back to the hotel early in the morning in Ibiza.

Not really, I kind of agree with him. In NS here those days are nice, put on a rain coat, bike a few miles to the camp, and go fishing or play darts or something. The cold is great for skiing, and the hot humidity is a nice change from cold and wet.
(I'd rather live in BC, but go figure, it's nice here)
