Title: VP format specification
Post by: maxim4o on August 18, 2008, 12:10:12 pm
Hello, I am new here, and I am trying to make some mods for FSO, at this point I just modify the table files :)
However, I really miss a good VP editor... VPCS in the modding tools is very buggy, and limited... I could write an editor for VP files, but I need a specification for the format... I could not find such anywhere. So, does a specification even exist?

Someone who knows his stuff can tell about the specs, but as for good editors, try Maja (http://wmc.freespacemods.net/repository/MajaExpress085.jar) (requires Java 1.5 or higher).

please note that, that particular version of maja may have a buggy pof editor, but it should be good for everything else.

Please note that I specifically linked to the tad bit older 0.85 version instead of the new 0.86 version. For that particular reason.

I tried Maja, but I can't figure out how to export a VP file... I go to the export package menu entry, save as vp file, and when I look in the folder I saved it - nothing   :wtf:

Weird. I've never failed with it. Just get the data folder ready, Export Package (, remember to add the .vp extension yourself), wait until it's ready and voila: a vp. Don't know what could be wrong in your end.

The data folder is there(I am using fsport VPs though)... Really strange issue...

Also, another issue, I am setting the output path to some folder(already created), and when I hit save... Error.
Edit: everything, however, works with version 0.80. Weird.

It's an issue in 0.85/0.86 - the menu option doesn't work, but the right-click option does.
