Title: Any Help on Running FRED2 in (Dar)Wine on a Mac?
Post by: Androgeos Exeunt on August 19, 2008, 01:27:05 am
Hello, all. I'm keen to get FRED2 running on my Mac OS X 10.5.4. Lobo told me that using Wine might work, but the only Mac version of Wine I found is known as Darwine. I'm unable to run FRED2 on Darwine. Can anyone help?

Bottom line seems to be: life sucks and then you die if you want to use a Mac and use FRED.

If you've seen it, you already know the answer. And if that is the case, what might be the purpose of this thread? Get a machine with a Wind'ohs, BootCamp or succumb to your fate.

There wasn't any mention of Wine on that thread really though so it's possible it does work but just needs someone more proficient with it to make it work.

The suggestions in that thread hold true. But I assume you're not using an Intel processor? If that's the case, you could try picking up an older version of Ubuntu that runs on 6.06 and run WINE from that. I've never tried that and can't offer any kind of guesstimate as to its working potential, but it is one other option.

Yeah, that's the problem. I'm running an Intel Mac. :blah:

In that case, you can pick up a new version of Ubuntu and run WINE on it. Or you could install MS Windows and run FRED2 on it*. Or use one of those programs that claims to run Windows programs flawlessly under Mac OS X.

* Make sure you read the instructions on how to do this very, very carefully.
