Title: Two weapons i'd like to see
Post by: Hellstryker on August 21, 2008, 03:15:25 pm
A tractor beam. Self explanatory...
And a sticky bomb. sort of like the clusterbomb from ST, but instead of exploding on impact/at a certain distance, if it hits the target, it sticks to it and blows up on the command of the person who fired it.

So, has anyone done either of these two things?

The second could be done with SEXPs and a weapon with no explosion animation.

I liket the sticky-bomb idea, you stick the bomb to an enimy, wait for it to get close to it's buddies, and blow 'em all away.

And, why would an enemy re-assume formation when engaged with the player's forces?

regroup after a bombing run on a cruiser?
not that the Ai would do that, but tactically it makes sense

I was thinking more along the lines of a Limpet tracking mine.  Big explosive attached to a cruiser that goes off when it gets back to the fleet.

im sure a stickey bomb would be possible with scripting. a tractor beam, that would be trickey.

Tractor beams work with -1 mass, yesh?

(Well they work for me anyway)

ive done negative mass guns before, the problem is they tent to throw the ship right into you. i wonder if i would be possible to scale the mass by distance. so it would pull harder when the target is further away.

It was pretty hillarious shooting my wingmen in Rebels and Renegades with a gun with -250 mass. Then I tried to get within scanning distance of the Hinton by shooting it towards me. Don't really remember what happened next.

I'd imagine you went splat.

I did make a black hole generating torpedo once that had a massive blast radius with an intensity of -1000000.  It seemed like a good idea until I fired one.

Did everything in the mission suddenly collide?

That would have been fun to watch.
