Because I'm looking for someone. You see, it has recently come to my attention that although I am good at modelling, good at tabling, good enough at music making and weapon effects drawing, I cannot for the life of me texture. Honest. It looks like crap, and I really need someone who would be willing to help me out.
Now honestly if you are some great and godly texturer who made like every game known to man and want to help, feel free, but I really don't expect that. In fact, I expect exactly zero people will want to help. So I'm putting it this way.
If you are a new or budding texturer that needs to get good and wants to try some stuff, message me and I'll hook you up with some UV maps. As long as you can do better then I can, I will be incredibly grateful.
There. Thats it. Done.

Well, you could do what I did, and start with weapons. Really! Re-doing the missiles for the Freespace Port (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,53499.0.html) I opened the old, nasty textures, scaled them up to 512x512, then started drawing over them with lines, gradients, then overlaying metallic textures or adding clouds or noise to them. More layers with more lines and panels and different combinations of filters and blending techniques can do amazing things.

Total moonspeak.
I'm actually fairly dissapointed this has over 100 views and only 1 reply.

you mean THREE!

You check out scooby doo's tutorial? Might help you on the texturing side of things.
I suck at texturing too, but anything can be improved with practice.
It may also help you to post your model, someone might like it enough to texture it as I discovered myself.
EDIT - there was btw some "classified" thread in this forum, but it must be a few pages back by now. Didn't really last. Nothing lasts unless it's stickied.

Oh god. I've seen scoobies tutorial and it certainly makes it look easy but then we realize that half of the stuff he just pulled out of thin air and the best we can do is make a backround texture after several hours of work. Honestly, I don't think you quite realize the extent of my suckitude. I really do need help here, otherwise I wouldn't be posting.
And I attatched a picture with different angles of the ship and two missiles that need texturing right now and the UV map and .3ds of the missile I was working on and failed at. BADLY.
Oh and an unfinished interceptor in case the other three things are too "ordinary".
EDIT: PM for download jerks
EDIT: Sorry for that, let me try again later in a bit

Copy his background texture, or find one on the internets...

Except no because that would be taking other peoples stuff.
OH GOD SOMEONE PLEEEEAAAAASSSEEE!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to texture a missile and all I got was a big grey suppository with some pixely writing on the side!!!

Is this cheating?
When I dabbled in this sort of thing I painted face for three areas: Head/cone, body, fins. and assigned a temp texture for saving then in model view changed them... Might be the noob way, but that's how I did them. I didn't have any sort of uv map.
In a pinch that's how I did a cokpit for a fighter once as either it didn't have one defined yet or the one it had I didn't like (I don't remember) I merely chose the faces that looked best and painted them black or rather a temp black and then in he material slotmade I switche din a generic black PCX...
I bet people who know what they are doing are banging their headz right now at my antics !!!!
