What would it take to increase it? A quick edit that also results in more CPU, more harddrive space, and a slightly slower game, or a complete rewrite of the game?

The Inferno build has the capacity for 250 ships.

No, only Inferno builds.

Methinks you're wrong.. I remember some code-wizzard saying all limits would be increased in 3.6.10 along with some optimized netcode...or something like that.

I think I remember seeing that one of the 3.7 goals was to make the ship limit dynamic, but not sure about 3.6.10.

There's going to be the 3.6.10 release for sure, not sure about a 3.6.11 or anything.

The roadmap has 3.6.10 and 3.6.11 before 3.7.

That still doesn't answer wether the ship limit increase will be in 3.6.10 or 3.6.11 or 3.7....

EDIT: Nope. Don't see increased ship limits anywhere.

The plans are for new pilot code to be implemented in 3.7 (by taylor), among other things, which would remove the need for a ship limit. ATM, many things, including multi and pilot files, rely on there being a limit.

I think you are thinking of the mission ship limit being raised from 100 to 400?. That is already in 3.6.10 builds.

What's the original limit? 100 subsystems?

I'm thinking of the number of ships in the ship.tbl that will actually appear int the tech room/FRED.
IIRC, the only reason the increased ship limit wasn't introduced sooner is because it messes up the net code or something like that.
So...3.7. eh, not sooner? :(

Not if you want to play multiplayer you can't. The old HEAD branch builds did have that fixed but nothing current does.
As for why we don't just bump the limit, it breaks multiplayer or the pilot files.
