I have browsed through all of the sticky threads so i hope this isn't something that has been covered.
My problem is when I add "fs2_open_3_6_9.exe" (or any FSO exe) to the launcher (5.5d and 5.5c) it freezes, but when I add the retail fs2.exe it runs fine. I have copied the whole free space open folder to another computer and it runs perfectly on that so I assume there is nothing wrong with the build or the files in it and it must be something to do with my computer specifically.
I am using Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, the other computer I tested it out on was on the 32bit version of vista (which MAY be the issue, going to test it on another 64bit machine when I get the chance).
My specs are:
Nvidia 9800gt (main)
Nvidia 8800gt
Nvidia 6200 (yeah I have 5 monitors, though I have disabled all the other GPUs and it doesn't seem to fix the problem -_-)
Intel e6850 core duo CPU
4gig DDR2 1066MHZ ram
I have tried both FSO 3_6_9 and 3_6_10 and both have the same error as it freezes when I put it into the launcher I cant select any mods or add any command lines or anything.
Hopefully I have explained the problem right and someone can figure out what simple noob mistake I have made then I can play freespace 1/2 again in sexy new graphics :D
[edit] Changed 'fred' to 'fs2' so it makes more sence -_-

Don't add FRED. That's just asking for trouble.
If you delete your launcher6.ini that will reset the launcher and allow you to start again.
-
Blah I said fred -_-
By fred I ment 'fs2_open_3_6_9.exe'
I don't know why I typed fred, prolly tiredness -_-
Point is, problem is still there, freezes when add it to the launcher and freezes when I load the .exe
I have deleted the open AL .dll's and reinstalled that and it hasn't changed anything either :/

:wtf: Oi, I've never even tried that. Is it actually possible to run FS2.exe with the Launcher?
-
Yeah it is possible, better than using the retail launcher too IMHO.
It however doesn't help me run the game! :p
And I am being taunted by the fact I can run it on the media PC and not my desktop >.<
Tempted to reformat, or even install a vista 32bit install JUST so I can run free space :p

Hold on a sec. I just had this faint memory of someone having something FreeSpace-related freeze on Vista. You could try to search the forums with the Search function. I'd do it myself, but right now I'd like to finish my breakfast, if you don't mind.
-
ok I have just tested this on another vista 64 puter of similar spec, works fine. Going to format and see if that fixes it. If there is still a problem (unlikely) then I assume it may be hardware.
-
ok reformat fixed that problem
On an unrelated subject I have noticed that I have to turn off my other GPU's to get the game to run at more than 0.01FPS, from memory this is an open GL falt as it gets confused between the GPU's and it just causes the rendering to go as slow as possible.

Good to hear.
That OpenGL issue shouldn't bother you too much. You could, of course, use the 3.6.9 build and play in Direct3D, but I really, really don't recommend it.
