Here's a better one. You don't even have to endure a ****ty underlying message, lame attempts at humour, or ass voiceacting.

If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.

SEE? SEE!

Me (the religious guy) and Kara (the Atheist) agree on this. There's no doubt now that it is bad.

If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.

Why?

Also, I'm starting to think Buddhism is the single most peaceful and complete religion on earth. Although Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion.

There is also a form (Shintoïsm, I think) which Worships Buddha as a god-like being. During a certain period (around 1600 and such) of civil war in Japan, the portugese arrived. When eventually a not so fond of christians guy won the wars, he put all the portugese priests on the boat, let the boat float, and then put it on fire, burning or drowning the Portugese. (The Dutch were allowed to trade with Japan during that period, either because they were not really fond of christians either or they could swim, which kinda ruined the execution method).

If you worship a figure, but fail to understand that figure's messages, that's not worship; it's idolatry. That goes for your priest-butchers, as well as the author of that video (who apparently never read the warnings in the Gospels or the Book of Job about presuming to know God's will.)

If anyone's interested in a more amusing look at what happens when an atheist goes to Heaven, see HERE. (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/103683/atheist/)

I forget the exact logic, but seem to recall this being a koan or at least a common Hindu saying.

I thought the line where he says "I have toasts to be burning the image of the Virgin Mary on!" was pretty funny. Otherwise it was lame.

I believe this is typically attributed to Linji. It's part of a Chan parable that's meant to caution against the complacency that results from feeling that one's search for meaning has been satisfied. If you meet the Buddha, it will not really be the Buddha, but a manifestation of your desire for some tangible affirmation.

I can see that going horribly wrong if you met someone and just thought they were Buddha... :wtf:

Well, yes. Probably safer to give them a stern talking-to.

Part of the defining factor of an Atheists' position is the lack of any evidence to the contrary. I would think bumping into a deity on the street would pretty much solve that lack of faith.

That said, I always envision God as looking like Morgan Freeman nowadays...

But the Buddha isn't a deity-- just a highly universalized individual who achieved nothing that can't be achieved by anyone else. And even in the more mystical branches of Buddhism, Enlightenment is something that can only come from within oneself. Worship only brings complacency, because there is no external entity or truth that can lead you to Enlightenment. So, to meet the specific individual who happens to be called the Buddha would be meaningless at best, and at worst, distracting. Buddhism is about you, not about some guy.

Me either to be honest, but if I ever meet God, I'd rather he was like Freemans' portrayal of Him than a big Zeus wannabe ;)

well he could give you some advice, for example;
"/*SMACK*/ QUIT WORSHIPING ME ****TARD!"
