Title: Macromedia Flash
Post by: Colonol Dekker on September 01, 2008, 06:18:43 am
Does anyone use it? i've been tempted in the past to make some Freespace Parodies and i wondered if anyone was interested in a collab of sorts?

I do have flash, but I've not touched it recently.

I've worked with it professionally, but wouldn't touch it in my spare time.  I'm not fond of that stupid program.

This sort of thing......

Get a few guys together, everyone makes a short clip and spoofing an event in the game. Splat em together into a montage.

Not enough people seem bothered though :pfffft:

For web design it might be okay but for animation it's not entirely fun for a number of reasons too numerous to list. But one example is if you have a symbol, and drawings within that symbol, and your symbol is flipped then you can't actually draw inside that symbol anymore. It won't let you know. Or why is the frame count box near the bottom only two digits wide? Do they expect any animation, even animated web graphics to be only 99 frames long? And then Adobe buys it, and I load it up, and it looks exactly the same. Price tag probably went up a couple hundred dollars, for a new loading screen! Wow.

You didn't pay for it now, though did you ;7 and the frames go way above 99. To draw inside a symbol? Just dupulicate it, break it, or trace....

Well I assume my workplace did, so no, I didn't pay for it personally. I know the frames go above 99, but for example if you have a symbol set to play once, and it's on like frame 142 and you look down at that bar along the bottom it only says 42. You have to click in there and move around to see the whole number.

It's a pretty good program for web-related stuff, but for television animation it's not so great. And that's where most of my experience lies. (Though maybe you've seen Skunk Fu, out of ireland, which is pretty darn good). Though since your in the UK, I believe, your exposure to flash-animated TV series is probably pretty negligible since it's mostly NA that thinks it's a good idea.

If all you intend to do is a crappy parody, I'd suggest just drawing every frame or something. Assuming you can draw. It'll be less work in the end I'd imagine. A short film would be a lot of work, a lot of work that you wont get paid for so try to minimize your workload and still have fun with it.

I've got a little experiecne in Flash, I like the prog and i'll stick it thank you very much :) MX2004 is fine.
Something may come oif the suggestion, something may not. I can draw, but i'd import the frames into Flash to sequence them anyway so i'll just cut out the Tablet use and phoshop factor..

Well yeah flash is probably the best program for what you want to do. And MX is practically the same as CS3 anyway so whatever. Sounds like you've got a plan. Good luck

Yah cheers man,

Newgrounds.com has been like a third home for about a decade now (second to HLP which is in turn second to RL) Might have something to show in a week or two.

If you need a hand, I might be able to do some minor stuff.

I am a fairly good at creating stuff... I don't have many samples, mainly cause I don't have flash... I'm gonna get it soon... Hopfully...

I'm not so good at animating things though... But if you need a symbol, I might be willing to help if I have some spare time in school.
