Title explains it all.
Original JCD Majesty:

My HTL Majesty (ShadowGorrath's):

Another HTL Majesty with its original maps (Droid803's):

I abstain because all those screenshots look like crud between no anti-aliasing and low resolution
and JPG compression artefacts. EDIT: well at least it looked like artefacts. Sue me. :p :nervous:
If the only difference between the two latter ones is in the maps, it's difficult to say which maps are "better" without seeing first-hand (in-game) if there are any mapping errors and stuff. Also if one is for example tiled and other properly UV-mapped, then the UV-mapped version is win.
Otherwise they are equal and could be used as different ships of same class, by different subcontractors for surface materials. Or something.

How can PNGs have jpg compression artefacts?
Its all no-AA (due to the screens being taken from PCS2).

How can PNGs have jpg compression artefacts?
No offense, but I concider Herra Tohtori's hi-fi eye to be more reliable than a mere file extension.

No offense, but how can someone disagree with something so obvious and be so stupid? Really. The images are PNG. HOW THE HELL CAN PNG HAVE JPG COMPRESSION ARTIFACTS/ERRORS?!

I didn't even check the file extension and I'm not sure if it's just the aliasing effects or no-mipmapping-related shimmering or artefacts, but the images don't really look very good either way.
Although PNG's can has compression artefacts if the image has been saved as JPG in some phase before getting here, it might just be that they just look like they're having compression artefacts...
Also, this bickering is pointless and I want to see bigger images of those ships, preferably with anti-aliasing of some kind in effect...
ShadowGorrath: Y so srs? I don't think Lobo was being so srs at all... ;7
Droid: PCS2 rendering window is just like any other 3D rendering application and cranking up the driver level anti-aliasing enables one to use anti-aliasing with it. Same goes with modelview or any 3D modelling program even.

Don't worry, I'm calm now. Just nuked a couple Orions, so... yea...
PCS2 renders in a lower quality than in-game. That I know for sure.
-
Goraths looks better for a first gen ship, perhaps droids could be an overhaul later or somthing
-
The JCD Majesty is a destroyer in Sol: A History. The Majesty class has heavier armour and improved statistics.
My version is just recoloured HTL Orion maps. Droid803's uses the original.

The latter two are just retextures of the HTL Orion. No UVMaps.

The lower one does look more armored...somehow more..intimidating...at least to me.

Same here. As well, the contrast between the less busy armour and the bluish parts makes it a bit more interesting, visually.

The HTL Orion actually looks good with SG's textures (the "default" HTL looks bad).
The others aren't bad, either. The third one also looks almost as good as the second one. It's just juxtaposition that makes it slightly inferior to my tastes.
-
i like the neat grey one, were is it availible... did i just commit suicide? :nervous:
(and if anyone is noticing a pattern in my posts today, no... i didn't take my meds.)
-
The last one clearly my favorite.
-
Same here.
-
Actually, a .png file could have jpeg artifacts...
If it were converted to jpeg and then to png, obviously.
-
I voted for the middle one. I find the overal plating more interesting. It might be a bit too busy, but I can't really tell. . . . The last one is cool too.
-
Well in the code, the Majesty has more armor. So the last one fits better IMO.
Oh and I'd use Trashman's Orion Mk2 (or just his regular up-gunned Orion) instead of Bob's Orion for the Majesty, it looks more like a modernized and heavily upgraded Orion than Bob's with different textures. It may have a few more guns, but not enough to make a difference.
Somewhat off-topic: I wish Trashman would make an FS1 version of his Orion, with the beam cannons replaced with Terran Turrets and stuff. (example: the beam turret under the nose changed to a triple-barrel Terran Huge Turret) I'd do it myself, but I can only change the code, not the model.

:wtf: That should be a pretty easy job in PCS2...

Heh, funny thing is, my reskin originally used TrashMan's (and I'm still using that one for my mod). I switched it to MVPs one to maintain the feel of the original, which didn't have that many turrets and stuff.

Well, importing turrets won't work - the texture lists are different, so the turrets will look FUGLY if you import them, sicne they're using the wrong texture. (and no, I do not get the array out of bounds thing.)
Unless you course, you mean to copy the turrets from other ones in the same model...I might just do that, though it would probably mess up the balancing of the S:AH missions if the Majesty suddenly got more turrets.

The gray one is not available yet, mostly because it isn't "done" in terms of normal maps (shine and glow are done)...
the improved maps for SG's isn't available either. They will be, eventually.
-
While I loathe all current attempts at HTLing the Orion, as they destroy the feel of the ship of basically being a huge slab of armor plate, the lowest one is probably the best-appearing.

SG's:

Droid's:

Just what I was thinking. I like SG's better, it has more of 'the Orion feeling' in it. But Droid's is very nice too.

I have made a FS1 version a while ago. Methinks it's on freespacemods.
-
You made an Orion with the beam turret models replaced with blob turrets?
EDIT: Ain't on FSmods, I'd really appreciate it if you could re-upload it. A bunch of other people would like it too methinks.
-
I know I saw it out there...must be on sectorgame then.
Frak. Alright, I'll upload it then...both version to be sure...or do I have 4 versions? Hrm..I have 3 versions or so it seems.
FS1 version, FS2 version and FS2 version with extra turrets.
-
You also have the Orion Mk2, IIRC.
-
I went option 3.
-
Uploaded all 3 versions of Freespacemods.
The Mk2 is not a Orion Variant per see :P
