Harper's dropped the date and dissolved parliament. Here we go again...date is set for October 14th. I think we're due for another minority government but we'll see what happens.
I guess with the Americans having an election...we should have one too. Except we get it over with in 6 weeks...thank goodness!

Conservative Party still has a comfortable lead in most polls, but I've come to learn to not trust polls especially when it comes to elections.

Polls are indeed only valid for the moment they were taken. I put greater stock in prediction markets, like at intrade.com. It doesn't deal with percentage of voters, but rather people speculate on who's going to win.

So much for fixed election dates *grumbles*.
That aside, I'm hoping for another Conservative minority - if only because the only other actual viable alternative for PM (Dion) is totally useless as a leader. Much as I disagree with some of his policies, Harper is a pretty decent guy.

I agree with you there...Harper seems a little less dweebie than Dion. Still a dweeb...but less of one. Jack Layton still seems like the best PM material...he just is attached to the wrong party :)
I do like how the NDP are going for the top job this time. They won't get it but they seem to have less ill will than the Liberals do right now. For whatever reason the Liberals are still in total disarray and people still don't trust them even when much of the old guard is gone. Voters have longer term memories than analysts think!
I'm going to vote strategically methinks.
