Title: GTVF Chimera
Post by: Hole in Head on February 28, 2002, 05:41:55 pm
Presenting my latest drawing: the GTVF Chimera, found here (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/guy_with_hole_in_head/vwp?.dir=/drawings&.dnm=GTVF+Chimera.jpg&.src=ph&.view=t&.hires=t) :

This is a combination of Shivan, Vasuden, and Terran designs, hence the name of Chimera(sp?).

If you don't know what a Chimera is, it's a mythological creature that has an eagle head, a lions head, and a snake for it's tail and it has command of 3 elements: Fire(shivans), Water(terrans), and Lightning(vasudens).

Anyways, tell me what you guys think and if anyone wants to model and texture this that would be cool!

I think lightning would be more appropriate for Terrans and water for Vasudans.  Ths ship looks nice though

Well blue is more of a terran color(look at the engine flames), and yellow is more of a Vasuden color(again, the engine flames, and their overall color scheme of ships etc.).

Blue=Water

Yellow=lightning

oh yeah, Thx for the comment!

You gotta point there Analazon.

Anyways, enough of the crapy element to species comparisons I made.  Any other comments?  Perhaps more specific?  And does anyone wanna model this?

I believe it's Chimaera, BTW. Anyway, it's a nice pic, but will need a very non shivan texture, or it'll look too maraish.

Actually, according to someone on the VBB(but then again, it is the VBB), either spelling is correct.  Anyways, I ment for it to look maraish.  It's the base fighter design that was modified.  For skinning, I was thinking of combinning all three races texture.  Like having a terran texture for the wings and engines, a vasuden texture for the nose and upper fuselage, and a shivan texture for the lower part of the ship.

Oh, and before someone goes off on how fast the thing is, I boosted the speeds in my campaign.  For comparison, the fastest ship in my campaign currently is the SF Dragon which goes 180, and 330 w/AB.

Well, yeah, I gathered that much, but you didn't modify it all that much. As long as the textures are different though, noone should get them confused in game.

I wouldn't do it like that. Have a combined set, but not in sections like that. Have a look at the ulysees and sorta the Collosus for some ideas.

Just out of curiosity - why?

so he can fly like an insane baffoon on LSD and constantly crash into things without being able to see what they are? :D  (j/k)

Actually, I did not boost the speeds of all fighters.  In my campaign, I plan to have plenty of civilian interaction, and I wanted to have military fighters out perform civilian fighters.  I thought: Hey, why not have some extra speed?  Might make the game more fast paced anyways.  Also, again for referance, if the Chimera's speed was put back to original standards, it'd go about 110.

I'll take you texturing suggestions Black Wolf into account.  You're probably right anyways.  Also I may find a different way to modify the mara.  Thanks fer the suggestions.  I love it when people are critical like this.

Curious... but um... Vasudan's homeworld was mostly desert (while Earth is mostly water).  The Tauret "was inspired by the Apsu-Hek, a creature that once inhabited the deserts of Vasuda Prime."

Wasn't the Vasudans wuv fishes a joke considering that their world is desert?

Joe.

Vasudans wuv fishies for the same reasons we Terrans wuv Vasudans. It's something they don't have, like an exotic pet or delicacy.

Vasuda was mostly desert, yes, but they did have some surface water (or else how would anything have survived?), and there were even a few small seas.  The shores of these seas became the geographical base for all the major Vasudan population centres.  Being on the whole a wiser and more philosphical people than the Terrans, they did their utmost to preserve these rare and valuable seas from pollution, exploitation and abuse, which is why fish are such beloved creatures (and prized delicacies) to the Vasudans.
Just as the Terrans were inspired by birds, who could fly while they were rooted to the ground, the Vasudans drew their inspiration from the fish.  Their space vessel models reflect the innate Vasudan desire to "swim through space," as they would say.

Alright, I made that up, but it sounds good, doesn't it? :D

Edit: I am an excellent typoist.

Interesting parallell.
Vasudans like to swim through space, while Terrans fly. Huh.

No  no no :D

The FS2 database says nothing of the sort.  The closest it says to that is
Quote
Because the Vasudan homeworld was primarily desert, the Terrans used Egyptian names to designate Vasudan warships during the Terran-Vasudan war and the Great War.
 Maybe it says something like that in the FS1 database, I wouldn't know. (I played FS1 on my brother's computer at my father's house, but never owned my own copy.)  If it does, could you please quote it, venom? :) I like to keep my extrapolations and interpolations as close to canon as possible.

don't rememeber. maybe it was in a CB ani in fact, but I sure remember it's written somewhere in the game. That always made me wonder how the vasudan could live w/o water, that's why I remember it.
