Title: 3.6.10 Videoproblems
Post by: Renegade on September 11, 2008, 06:44:43 am
Hello...
I Upgraded yesterday from 3.6.9 (Tureys Installer) to 3.6.10 + MediaVP“s.
Game works great, but the cutszene videos now are playing in the left upper corner from my Monitor.  Also in a smaller size as with 3.6.9

My Machine:
Athlon 64 3200+
Radeon x800 pro
1 Gig Ram (2x 512 MB)
Windows XP

Can everybody help ???

Greetings Peter

Happens with some 3.6.10 builds. Find another one here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,97.0.html).

Can everybody help ???
No, but quite a few can.

It happens with all the builds since the normal maps were incorporated if you have an ATI video card.

Hmm. The Recommended build for Windows users linked in my signature works. I just tested. With a Mobility Radeon.

Just wanted to note that I experienced this with the nightly builds of both the 14th and the 15th on a Radeon X300.  I take it this is a known issue, then?  I didn't come across anything relevant in Mantis.

(Saw some other very strange behavior, too, but that's for another thread...)

The problem is known, the cause is not.  It seems to only affect ATI cards for some reason and sometimes it works fine (depends on how the movie gets played apparently).  This issue originally showed up in Xt builds and I have never been able to track it down to anything in particular.  Only minor changes were made to the movie code, and reverting those changes for testing still didn't fix it.  I assume that it's some issue in completely unrelated OpenGL code changes.  But as usual, it's extremely difficult to track down something like this with having access to a computer exhibiting the problem.  I spent several months on the problem, trying all sorts of things to fix it, but with no luck.  I'm sure that it will end up being something really stupid and small when the problem is found, but it will most likely take someone with the hardware in question to actually track it down.

Strange.  I wish I wasn't a total coding neophyte, or I'd offer to do some snooping myself.  At least it's an extremely minor annoyance.

An update on this: I happened to update my Catalyst drivers to the latest release today, and now the cutscenes are properly playing at full screen again.  Anyone else who had this issue might want to give it a shot.

K, I'll add it to the Common Issues thread (which, I hope, is read by people before they start new threads about their problems).

I was also experiencing this bug, but after just updating to 8.9 and using the latest nightly, it doesn't happen with the ogg or mve cutscenes.  Guess I won't have to mantis it after all.  I was testing on a 9800 Pro.

Good to have a confirmation on that. I'm stuck with version ~8.2, because I can't update my Mobility Radeon X1600's drivers anymore (well, apart from switching to Omegas).

The Installation Verification Software says you can't install the drivers?  And you can't just install the regular Catalyst 8.9 package?

I bet you could if you put your card's vendor id in the driver's .ini file.

Hmm, never thought of that. I suppose I could give it a shot.
