Wikipedia on Festivus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Festivus)
Wikipedia on 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008)
Frank Costanza: Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way.
Cosmo Kramer: What happened to the doll?
Frank Costanza: It was destroyed. But out of that a new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!
Edit: apparently creating an event using the calendar simply amounts to dumping the post in the General FreeSpace Discussion forum...

Sweet, looking at years that haven't happened yet in Wikipedia is like looking into the future. I never thought to do that before. :D
-
I just noticed that 2008 is "The Year of the Potato" according to wikipedia.

Who are you and why are you using the [mobius] tag? :eek2:
By the forums it appears that his name is Grimper, and he has a number of posts to his name
-
??? Aka who are you talking to?
EDIT: Ah mobius must have deleted his post for some reason..

Yeah I guess Mobius doesn't like you using his colours and format because his posts are now less uniquely annoying

I'm not even sure what the purpose of this thread is, but speaking of festivals . . . I wonder has the forum ever considered contests. Why not have something like a modelling contest along specific lines. Like, have a contest about HTLing an older model, or a contest to fill a missing link in say the Vasudan fleet (Vasudan argo). Long time ago there was a FRED contest, which was never finished from a judging perspective . . . of course, people are busy with their own projects anyway. But nothing like a deadline to get people motivated.

have a contest about HTLing an older model
I'm not sure about that. Is it constructive to have about ten people trying to make a HTL Thoth (for example)?
or a contest to fill a missing link in say the Vasudan fleet (Vasudan argo)
This idea is better, as all the models could be used whether they won or not as they would probably be different.

Well I was thinking more about 3rd party models since I think most of the FS models have been updated already.
But even so, wouldn't be my first choice.

Yup yup.

I still don't get this.
But apparently this is today?

Festivus is some made up hoilday from the sitcom Seinfeld. What it has to do with HLP I don't know.

I don't know whether I should lock this, dump it on someone else's board...or float it...

Moving to General Discussion. We can decide what to do from there :)
-
In that case I shall use this thread to wish you all Merry Christmas.
-
WTF is this thread all about?
oh well In that case I shall use this thread to wish you all Merry Christmas.
ditto

FYI this thread was created when I discovered a) the calendar at the bottom of the board index and b) that you could post 'events.'
However I did not realize that posting an event basically just made a normal forum post in General FreeSpace Discussion (I guess because that's board #1) ... although there was also a little thing on the calendar as well.

Somebody actually put up an aluminum pole for festivus in Washington D.C. They got arrested for it.
-
There are people who take it seriously (and it was around before the Seinfeld episode, actually)
