I need a non-ugly superdestroyer/light-juggernaut ship.
Tried the Megaera, Olemus and Moscow. All ugly, except that the Moscow is badly UV mapped.
I don't really want to use the Odin, Orion MK2s or the Titan juggernaut, and the Raynor is used as a regular destroyer.

Hades? For which there are re-skins in several mods (158, Procryon)
-
The GTD Sirona is a good ship for a superdestroyer, IIRC it's almost 3 clicks long, and by default has 7 beams, including TerSlash, BGreen, and I think it had custom made MGreens too.
It's somewhere on FreeSpaceMods.
-
I agree with the Sirona - it looks great when paired with the Reyena corvette and it has a good weapon layout.
-
The ship has to be for a Sol faction. And the Sirona is used elsewhere.
-
Well we could say that a second Hades was made my the Sol faction using some top-secret GTI blueprints housed in a secret bunker orbiting Neptune or something. Sol was really the center of R&D (there are many statements in FS1 that say this) so it's only logical that some people in Sol would have schematics for the Hades.
-
No, that sounds kinda weird and highly unlikely. The Hades is a post-great war GTI design. It was already unknown to the GTA, and constructed only after the great war, so that's why it is more than unlikely that Sol would have a Hades-like design.
I was thinking of using the Hera at first, but found it too difficult to properly remap, and that it looked too un-FS like...
-
Uhh actually it was constructed during 2335, only 9 months at the most after the Great War. (Sol node collapsed in March 2335)
-
Still sounds wierd.

I think you need a new model, right?

I think you need a new model, right?
Would you be willing to make one (of course, then it'd be a ShadowGorrath exclusive... Be kind to us ShadowGorrath... :nervous:)
-
How about taking some fighter and scaling it up a bunch and giving it turrets?
-
Yeah, like the Osiris! And then you can give it a single texture with a box UV map.
-
Yea, it seems I need a new model.

Yea, it seems I need a new model.
What about the GTD Gaia from OTT: http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/images/Gtdgaia.jpg (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/images/Gtdgaia.jpg)
3km long with a crapload of turrets.
Here's another picture on a whitebackground if the shape isn't clear:

You know that works pretty well as a Vasudan destroyer when reskinned, but the model isn't that great to start with anyway.
-
Yea, it seems I need a new model.
Three questions in bad english:
1. Are you in a hurry?
2. Is it supposed to be older than Orion?
3. Do you need new textures, other than those allready in MVP? :)
-
No rush,
Post-capella Sol,
using maps like in bp.
-
I'm in.
How public do you want it to be from now on?
-
Very.
-
Very.
I love this guy :)

show off your work, be proud and flambouyant. brag.

Too old for this :pimp:
-
You can show the model progress here, as long as I get the model for the mod.
If anyone's interested, I could announce this mod to the public sometime soon?
-
Very.
QFT.

How could we be interested in it if you haven't told us what it is yet?
-
Keywords been said: sol, superdestroyer, gtva, raynor, sirona, etc.
Additional keywords: shivans, sol gate, post-capella.
-
Aw. I wanted a pre-capella + shivans + sol gate campaign
-
Hey, The Gaia looks kinda good. Now if only I could make it vasudan... or shivan...
Can anyone upload it seperately?

Very.
I love this guy :)
join the club... well I don't love him but, anyways...
and I thought the moscow was a corvette?
-
Aparently there's an in-game version of it as a battleship. Too bad that it's UV Map is horrible.
-
Here is the main volume's draft. ShadowGorrath how long do you want it to be? I'm thinking something like 4000 meters.
-
Aye, 4 kilometers.
I like what I see so far :)
-
Some how 4 kilometers seems more like a normal destroyer than a super destroyer to me ... But that may just be me. Just do it as you see fit.
-
Lucifer is 3km. If it was 5km, then it'd be a juggernaut.

:(
I WANT IT
-
Oi Snail, you can want it, but you'll only get it when my other mod is released. :p

Superdestroyers usually are 3kms long while destroyers are 2 kms long. Juggernauts are 5-6kms long.
4kms is reasonable for a sleek superdestroyer.

Main volume finished, partially detailed.

Very nice!
Side mounted multipart turrets probably won't work too well, though.
-
Can't see it for 8+ hours.
-
It's beautiful. Captures the linear, block overall shape of the Orion class, while rounding the edges to be more FS2 modern-ish. Does it have a fighterbay? I could see this becoming a rather popular model if it gets finished and released.
-
It has a huge fighterbay. :)
-
Can someone upload a 320x240 sized picture of it, that is less than 35kb, to imageshack, and post a direct link to it, so I can download it to my phone and see?
-
The fighter bays are the two diagonally oriented rear-facing chutes, right?

One moment. Photobucket ok?

And SG, if you think its paint scheme won't match the others in the *classified*, it shouldn't be hard to change :P
-
All I've got to say is, nice.
-
Wooohoooo!!!
As soon as I get it, I'll declassify info of Sol.
A shame I'll have to change the maps to fit the Sol faction.
-
As it is tho, it reminds me of a Kushan Heavy Cruiser.
-
You mean, with the dual beam cannon at the front?
-
It looks like a <you know what>.
Hey, that's probably why I love it!
That joke was funny 8 years ago.
-
Here it is whith a new texture, alternative to the "helheim".

Beautiful!
-
You mean, with the dual beam cannon at the front?
Yea, that one.
-
It's cool©
-
That looks like some serious p4wnage.
-
It looks amazing, peterv :)
-
Whensitgonna be converted? ;)
-
 that looks nice peterv
-
Finally a ship that uses multiparts on the sides...
Since when does the engine support that feature?
-
I'd love to re-texture this one myself as I have done for over 30 ships to date :) Dam it's addictive!
-
Well, Jadehawk, this ship is only for End War, so... Unless you'd do the re-texture for End War?
Or, if you'd like to join as a texture editor?
-
ShadowGorrath, thank you for the kind offer! Right now I'm committed to Teeth of the Tiger and some personal projects and sadly cannot join in. If this ever get released in the future, I may give it a spin. Regardless, I do wish you all the very best on your mod!

's been in for a while. IIRC it was broken at some point but then fixed.
-
When was it fixed?
-
Tried the Megaera, Olemus and Moscow. All ugly, except that the Moscow is badly UV mapped.
That was the old Megaera...
-
So multiparts on side work now?
-
That was the old Megaera...
The new one has twice as many polies.
-
So multiparts on side work now?
I think it's any angle as far as you can figure out the normals now.
-
Thank's everyone. :)
I didn' t knew there was an issue with the side multiparts. I'll check that.
