Title: 3 Old Project Reminders for NEW modelers
Post by: Getter Robo G on September 14, 2008, 06:06:23 pm
The following mods need modeling help for many EXISTING meshes .
Either to fix errors, enable conversion, or poly reduction. Some even need to be UV mapped, and almost all need to be turreted. Of course in certain cases some models will need to be made from scratch, with possibility of reference meshes available.

My Mods: Robotech Mod 2, Star Trek Star Fleet Academy 5 years WIP Each.

JC4JC's mod: Stargate SG-1 Earth's Defence... Over 2 years WIP.

Not to overload anyone, those interested will receive a small set of relevant files (basically ONE ship at a time)
to prove work. I'm not afraid of leaks for fakes cause if the files don't work as is, then they can't use it anyway :)
I will Not release any working files initially, so don't bother to ask.

Only those that earn the trust of either team will receive more and more files as they contribute to the cause.

What's happening with your other projects, Star Blazers and Gundam? Or are those on the back burner while you concentrate on these three? There's a slight possibility I might be able to try giving you a hand in future, but I'm super busy with RL right now and I've got some other modeling comittments to fulfill first before I start doing anything else.

Is that the same mod MAx Sterling worked on? over at robotechlan? Gawd, that's made leaps and bounds. I remember being impressed by the firework missiles :)

If not, jeez man slow down or your mouse hand will break :D

Yeah, this was made because we get a trickle of new people now and then and I was gonna make a reminder post back in June, but didn't so... Won't make another oen till like next march... (going for Bi-annual).

SB and Gundam are defiantly on the back burner... Had some leards but with the Seed Mod deader than me on GW and the contacts I had on CGtalk and sci-fi meshes absent SB is frozen as well.....

And lets not even mention SAAB... (oops!)  ;7

:( low blow.....
Dammit, that was gonna bring me and Diamond Geezer fame (depending on which of the four versions flittering about you mean )

I just had a quick check into the past for a link to the original topics, my old profile only has TWELVE posts left, Is carl eating the server or what?

Back on topic, your projects have sites or are they semi-dormant?

Gessh man, only 6 projects? Why not start a Gunbuster or Jovian Chronicles project too? haha. Actually hell yeah man, someone should make a Jovian Chronicles project. It's got some cool ships. Though the mecha . . . what are they, exosuits? are pretty powerful.

Because I can't start something that already exists...

Kidding! I only have that one mesh. I plan to use it in a vid and have it on the bow of SDF-1 and take out some Bug Monsters for a cameo in the Fanfiction Crossover teaser... I write it on the SpaceBattles site in case you didn't know. :)

I hope someday the artist makes Buster Machines 1 and 2 now that I mastered (sorta) combining with Getter.

These are the place holders: I want to rip the line where Noriko says "Geppy Robo..." so it looks like she's talking to me (that's the Getter parody name in GunBuster), He he...

Be careful with name dropping, you never know what I might get my hands on...  ;7

And no Dekker, only the RT project has a forum on GW, the rest only exist on my drives...

I am about to start investigating CRYSIS though after seeing that awesoem BSG vid though...

K, do you have a preferance? I got models that crash in game, and models that don't convert for me (but will for others?) due to subobject issues, vertices, etc... I won't ask you to turret them, but as long as they are ready for soeone to turret on a optimized bug free mesh, then that's perfect for my needs (at least I can test them then!!!).

I'd only send one at a time to not bog you down... I could start with [RT] Zent Pods or [trek] the USS Courageous. (Future Defiant role Varient).

 contact info?

I have never encountered models that crash ingame but I guess it would be caused by similar errors.

K I need to haev this fixed so it will convert? BTW PCS2 does NOT work on my system and I await teh day a new version is posted. yes I have reported the problem. I think mainly I need someoen for mere GRUNT converting who has a working version of PCS2.

Anyone if you can fix the .cob I can edit it later and add the 16 cubes I plan to place over the texture (I used a shaded texture already called invisible so after conversionteh texture slot is accounted for and automatically goes invisible in game. It's a very simple and elegant Trek solution for turrets.

The USS Courageous will have like:
x12 Type XIII Phaser strips
x4 Heavy Forward Pulse Phasers
x2 Aft Torpedo launchers (variable loads)
x2 Forward Torpedo launchers (Same)

http://www.4shared.com/file/63707212/d23e1d6d/Courageous.html

I still haven't heard from the 4 people who Downloaded the StarGate texture I asked to have animated...
(you know who you are)...  ;7

Did you DL the file?

Anyway one of the Kit bashes I am working on for post-Nem era.

I think Fallen warrior suggested I call it D'Rexia instead of Shrike.

It had like 3 textures so I changed about 90% of it so it now has 17 slots and added 2 more guns. A variant has the original warp nacels instead of the inner gun sets.  Mostly the model was RAW and I cant uv map so this was the best I could do.

At least it's not blank...

I just got a rude reminder of why some progress has slowed...

I made soem TMB files for trek weapons pri/sec they didnt show, so I edite the main files and got a lock up...

I guess 3.6 entries don't play nice with 3.9

For immediate testing I will recreate Fed Phasers and a regular Photon Torp (cap version) and leave the other weaps for another time... It will be faster and easier to do that then play what works now and screw with each old entry...  :(

Courageous in action: Design by MayhemUK, Meshed by Queball (Both from Bridge Commander Universe)

Do tbm, files have limits on new content for quantity? It seems my cap phasers work but when i did the whole dump into a tbm file it failed? All the mods I test use nukemod as a base.

The Courageous is teh sex...

Something that's been yanking at my head for a while...is the Getter Three supposed to look like a Gratha?
Title: Re: 3 Old Project Reminders for NEW modelers
Post by: Getter Robo G on September 28, 2008, 08:01:07 am
Yes it is...

I saw Michelle's Design on the SB.com site and asked her for permission (granted). I can't uv map so it's just raw right now.

Anyway I looked for designs that had hints of the original three, but are actually different. This is to represent a more modern distance from the 1976 series as the Getter-GX (meaning Xtra) is so watered down and rebuilt it bears almost no resemblance to teh former.

It was put together from a 74 Getter Wreck, a 76 Getter G wreck (The core), and teh new LAM airframe just invented (Battletech analog)

So here's teh break down su far (sunbject to change):

Getter 1 (mode1): Red Super Veritech  (Mode2): Aion
Getter 2 (Mode 1): Red vf-19 kaifire (Mode2)): A kitbash from Axeman and Atolm's works (will change)
Getter 3 (Mode1): Black F-302 (Mode2): Yellow Gartha (modified)

Keep in mind the final robot forms have bnot been created. Only Getter 1 has a temp version (Getter Armageddon by Shadow0000).

I want to have 3 new designs made for the three archtypes but also have a new interpretation.

Dual linking. Since this is a totally new approach the Getter's have "Half-modes", meaning only 2 can combine and still be functional.

They would now have 6 additions configurations to choose from that would not be robots, not equate to gunships...

ATM I have my eye on one for a 2/1 combo called "Hummingbird!" LOL

Here are the high poly ships I posted a pic of not long ago with EA B5/amine influences.
There are all WIP's and I planned on poly reducign some or jsut kitbashing parts and crediting Sebastion (the author from Sci-fimeshes.com) problem is I don't have lwo and I think something is wrong.

3de fails to open then as well as TS..

Could someone with LWO open then and save them as cobs or 3ds (NOT max) ?

I could then access them probably.

any help would be appreciated.,  It's a 27mb DL

Ok, just scored a vf-11 for testing.

All the usual stuff fails but I think it should convert?

Can someone run this through PCS2 and post the .pof? I can reverse engineer it from there if needed just like I did with the Courageous.  :D

Once ready I plan to make two versions. The white main one, and the PINK Mylene custom textured one.

Bump for app question...

Do any of you use sketchup?

I've been exploring their database, but when I export to .3ds from a skp file it makes like 10 times the polys!!!

IS there something about the program that is wasteful? Even the simpliest looking structures are simply bloated with polys. Is there a specific set of options in under the export interface I need to click to do the bare minimum???

I don't mind only using some of them for renders, but 99% of the models that look like they would be 200 at most end up over 20k!!!

It's probably better for you to pretend that most of the sketchup models shouldn't be touched gamewise. A skilled sketchup modeler can create and export a game type model out of it, but most models produced are render models. It the price paid for making modeling easy - the model becomes more complex internally.

You have a VF-S?

Water: Thanks! I'll try that VF-11 out soon! I need to revamp the basic map and then make a mylene one (pink).

Colonel: Hehe didn't notice earlier you could try diff formats...

It seems the .3ds exporter is bonked (at least for me).

.Obj works better but has some sort of texture issues. I can open the raw model and add a base color but for some reason adding certain textures causes 3dexpltation to crash? That's never happened before from a texture assigning! :)

We have three VF-s's. The old one, the HW2 one I was using as a placeholder, and the new Macorss VO one which I have decided is the long term placeholder if not final model.

Have you gone through our screenshots thread on Game Warden?
I also have a stickie for a "to DL List".

If things don't pick up I'm afraid matt will cull us from the active list of mods.

Yeah I get what you mean about sketchup. I was just really surprised how good people could use it, especially some fo those 500k+ models. I reduced a 500k carrier to only 230kish just fro my own fun (maybe a render later) in a form more CPU friendly as soem fo them I can barely rotate without crashing, lol!)

There are gobs of talented people who contributed there... Maybe some of our artists should start accounts there as a backup of there works, and to spread awareness of FS2 modeling.

Not only is the warehuse a great source of models, more importantly having all of them in one place under a searchable engine is awesome for IDEAS when thinking of a ship design because all the various styles can be seen relatively quickly on one site!!!

As for MACROSS (not teh RT mod) I made a new freind and will be gettign some M7/MF models from him (like a SWEET low poly B7!) I have it now and untextured VF-17, Uraga Carrier and North Hampton Frigate(?)

Anyway I hooked him up with MP's M7 models and more anime love will no doubt follow, non mod related, but is a great boost to my fanfic pic ability! :)

soon as I can secure one I will.

Anyway just to show i do use teh things people help me with:

Vf11b main and Sound Force Mylene version (pink)

Not good with placed textures (UV maps) but will try to get the patches/icons/decals on them ASAP.

But they work and blow up! Good enough for now!
