Title: Missing files after install in Vista
Post by: rosey on September 20, 2008, 05:33:25 pm
Hi Guys,

I have any issue. I have installed FS2_open using the automatic installer in Vista. When I go to run the application, the files are not in the freespace2 folder. Yet I will then go to install the application again and the files are there.

So in other words, the installer says the files are there but Vista doesn't. I have even run the admin account and still nothing.

Please help!

wat

If you've used the Installer, if you've used the default settings and if it has worked, you should have all the FreeSpace stuff in C:\Games\FreeSpace\. From there, just run Launcher.exe. And remember to install OpenAL if you haven't already (link in my signature).

You can also make a shortcut of the Launcher to your desktop for more convenient usage.

That file is missing as well.

I have also noticed that the auto installer is revealing several directories I thought were deleted.

I must be missing something.

There is a link to a manual for the FSO Installer in my signature. Read it to see if you've possibly done something wrong. If all else fails, see this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47640.0.html) for instructions on manual installation.

Screenshot of your contents.

Wait. You're using Turey's Installer, correct? Can't you simply change the install directory?

Sometimes it skips installing things if it has records of them being present. I believe the temp folder (either in the fs2 directory or the dir with the installer, idk) should have a bunch of files in it. Deleting the right one should fix it (but I don't know which one it is)
