Post by: Colonol Dekker on September 20, 2008, 06:51:07 pm
For one day only, vote now.

Stupid moody emos on the bus whinging about life being gloomy. Worse than bloody goths.
Except the paradoxical thing is they were obviously on anight out.....enjoying themselves..

Dude, they're teenagers, of course they don't like anything or anyone :p

As a friend of mine once said of our teenage years:

'I'll be an individual if you are too.'

But they were verging on nineteen years old. In hoody territory. They urban fires of natural selection should have forged a non-moody being/set of individuals..

Sorry for the philosophical bit there. But i sdon't get why they were out, or on their way back from a civic centre where drinking and dancing an almost certain activity. Only to moan about it on the way home.

With a poll such as this, there is only one correct choice... Snuffleupagus:p

I noticed 7 people voted snuffleupagus.

I've seen a few people like that on the streets in singapore.

One of my mates has been Emo since he was 16, he's now 30. Ruined a relationship with an absolutely wonderful girl by acting like the world somehow owed him a favour. He was never a bad person, just incredibly self-destructive.

Heh, I remember once when ol' Snuffles got something like 2 million votes ;)

Of course, that was back when Mods could edit the votes in a poll. I think Admin stopped it when a few 'wars' broke out ;)

Frankly, I'm nonchalant. Either they get happy and accept the world as it is, or die of depression.

Stereotypical emos are stupid. However, in some cases, things happen. Like say, when you lose your house.

That's not emo then. That's real depression over a genuine problem. Emo (as I understand it) is being all depressed for no good reason. Emos are the well-off middle class suburban kids who go on and on about their 'pain' when their lives are perfectly fine and comfortable.

If a girl likes an emo guy, it's probably because she thinks he's cool. He isn't, in my opinion. :blah:

I don't see the point in getting all worked up about kids' subcultures. So they're melodramatic; it's part of adolescence. I grew up in the suburbs-- they're boring, and one way teenagers deal with that boredom is by adopting melodramatic worldviews. It doesn't mean they're genuinely unhappy; the "me vs. the universe" thing is just a fantasy to make life more fun. It's why I loved Nietzsche when I was sixteen. Just let 'em do their thing in peace, and remember that someone older than you is shaking their head at what a dip**** you are, too.

What does having cloths and listening to music have to do with decadence of the West? :wtf:
You do realise the West isn't ALL bad.
And I have to agree with that guy. The whole world, and the West in particular, is going down the toilet.

Because a lot of those things are famous for using cheap labour and resources from several poor countries. It was the hypocrisy that made me laugh, complaining about the problem whilst obviously being part of it. It's not a statement on the West it's a statement on people complaining without bothering to look in the mirror first.

What makes you think he was reffering to cheap labor when he was talking about the decadence of the West?

Maybe he was referring to the alienation of families?
To rampant violence problems?
To the moral crumbling?
To really bad TV reality shows?
To the "holier then thou" stance stance.
To their growing obesity?
To the irony that of the good, modern life?

Who says he was? You can play the 'what if' game all you like and never get an answer.

The simple fact is, the poorer countries couldn't care less if we live 'immorally' if we just left them alone whilst doing it. It's only when you stop wondering where your next meal will come from that you have time to start standing in judgement of other countries. A lot of that bitterness comes from the exploitation of poorer countries, and a lot of that exploitation comes in the form of labour and resource harvesting.

In essence, it doesn't matter what he was referring to, he was still far more part of the problem than he realised.

So tell me, if a small time thief that steals groceires from the local markets comes to a professional bank robber who happens to leave casualites behind every heist, and then tells him what he's doing is wrong - he is somehow wrong and not entiteled to say that?

Yeah, you know universal sufferage, abandonment of slavery and mostly of imperialism and a population that virtually never goes hungry is a sign of real problems.

Although things are looking down a bit at the moment, I'd have to say things have gotten better in the last 300 years.

Yes, because driving a car definitely isn't the most practical method of transportation in Alaska. I mean, it's probably only a few hundred miles, why not walk?

There's a fine line between killing the environment for the sake of killing the environment even more and killing the environment a little in order to save the environment a lot.

They weren't advocating a ban on oil, they were advocating not drilling in a wildlife refuge.

Whatever your views, there's no logical conflict there.

Only if you assume you need oil from that specific refuge.

If however you realize that really there isn't that much oil there, and that even without it we'd all still probably have gas, it makes a little more sense.

Honestly I'd support drilling in the refuge because from what I've heard, it'd have minimal impact on... anything.
