Right guys here's one for all the tech heads, I recentyl re-installed Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, my little bro and i enjoy a Lan game of DOW and to be honest i'm sick of getting raped by his Ork Army. I was always a dab hand as the Soviets and i figured i'd get some payback.
Now i've learned from a web-search that IPX on vista isn't supported/not present for RA2 or something.
Do any Vista users play older LAN games like RA2 and do you have a solution?
(Downgrading my OS isn't a viable option by the way) :)
Thanks for the time and effort beforehand

Just checked Novell's site and they don't even have an IPX client for Vista so it's not looking good.

Google is your friend: http://vquill.com/netware/2006/12/windows-vista-and-netware.html

Hmmm,
I think i already got that and installed it through my Lan connection (manage network connections etc) but RA2 still said IPX Not available.
I'll look through this and see if it helps.
Chee-ars Hellstryker
I'll update later, i've got a busy week, planning infrastructure stuff. Evaluating budget overheads etc.
:sigh:

Fixed the title for you :)

Nipples :eek2: that was random........

 That would work if it hadn't changed the name of the last person who edited the post :p
Not that there's anything wrong with nipples... in certain situations....

ownzor'd.

K, you got me :p
no joy with the aforementioned protocol :(
is there an XP Emultor? Wine or summink? Mebbes a dual boot is in order...

Well a bit of Googling and everything points to this site:

I'd suggest trying at your own risk but that seems to be the thing to do. Allot of people are asking the same questions you are Dekker ...not allot of options.

I need an ipxbox equivalent . . :( but there's no such thing.
Ho-hum, RA2's relegated to skirmish only for now. Cheers for the assist guys.

Either add a second hard drive or repartition your existing drive and add an an OS of your choice that supports it. Even better another computer. I've still got a Pentium 100 running DOS for just such occasions. :D

Vista was originally supposed to be backwards compatible, but it turned around. :drevil:

IPX does work on XP, although it's a little tricky to set up. I played all of the earlier C&C games over it last summer. They removed support for it altogether in Vista. You may want to try this (http://www.starbase01.com/site/index.php?aid=87) out though.
TS and RA2 really shouldn't be requiring it though. Nobody was using IPX by the time those games came out. RA2 must have been the last commercial game to have IPX as the only LAN option.

Can you verify whether or not that that is safe? Because if it is, it will come in damned handy.

I tried it before opening the thread. (Automatic at least)

Vista removed support for some (but not all) really, really obsolete stuff.
