Sounds like some kind of food thing, don't it? "And today's Beam Alternative is a good helping of Helios torpedo". Anyways, better stop blabbering.
As some of you may know, I am making a new campaign. The thing is, I don't want the new enemy or the Terrans (at the start) to use beam weaponry. The thing is, without beam weapons you get FS1 syndrome where capships are just large targets and they cannot fight each other.
I have so far come up with three ideas- A kind of overdriven Plasma turret which fires something like the Siege Cannon from Homeworld:Cataclysm (although less powerfull), a large mass-driver and a fast moving torpedo- like the Fusion torpedo but more powerful.
Now, I need more ideas. Especially for fighters... I mean, I don't really want to just up the power on the plasma turrets, so I need help. Any ideas will help (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Why would a railgun have a trail, hmm? It's a projectile moving at hypervelocities. (3000+ m/s in FS terminology)
