Yeah, so. My latest project. And i'm more or less stuck, any help related to how to properly texture a model from the ground up is appreciated (tutorials, etc...)
I eventually plan to release this to freespacemods, so this is gonna go ingame.

Also, the UV map, if anyone is interested in a peek.

[edit]imageshack hates me... -.-
neways, the first person to note the resemblance to the BSG viper gets a boot to the head. ktnxbai. :p
[edit#2] fixed eyegougyness...
-
a boot to the head
Nice looking fighter.
-
JESUS CHRIST
use lvlshot tags, man! I don't need a 4096x4096 line drawing in my face like that!
That's not a peek, that's an eye-gouger.
-
as i said, imageshack hates me. instead of giving me bloody thumbnail img's, it gave me the huge links and it didnt want to upload em again.
will try to fix now :p
[edit]fixed.
-
y'know, you could have at least left a comment concerning the model... not just the "aaah my eyes" factor...
-
Looks like it can move pretty fast. I kinda like dagger fighters too.

and now i have a somewhat base texture... -.- bleh
-
I'd like to help, but I know even less about textures than I do about baking.
-
baking what? bread? :p
i'm not using baking yet tho, will use it for glowmaps once i get to that point actually... -.-
-
Yea. I can barely bake bread, let alone models. :P
-
baking bread is at least easy :p
compared to making textures that is. and much less time-consuming.
-
Well. I've tried baking bread thrice. Burnt it three times ... not to mention the time I set the oven on fire ...
Textures take longer, but well made ones always add the last bit of sparkle to ships.
-
indeedy.
-
a somewhat minor update...

yes, i'm aware of the seam, will be fixed soon enough.
-
The way the grill-type thing blends into the metal texture---it might be good on a Vasudan ship, maybe even Shivan... but not Terran.
(I don't even know what universe this is for actually)
-
i dont know whose its supposed to be :p
any tips on how to blend it then?
-
You have a texture map?
What are you using, Lithunwrap or C4D stuff? For the textures themselves i use Photoshop and Paintship Pro, sometimes even Macromedia Flash....
-
pfeeeh.
for uv mapping i first separate pieces of the mesh into more manageable pieces in bodypaint (included with c4d :p ) and then export to obj and import to UVLayoutPro (this app has the best flattening options ever...) then back and depending on what i need i either draw directly in c4d (tis a bit clunky since i dont have much experience with bodypaint apart from uvmapping) or in photoshop. that texture was made in PS. and its hoooorrible.

Scoobs tutorial for th WEEEN!
-
its usefull but while you're learning to texture its more of a "hit and miss" thing or in my case "clickityclickityclickity in photoshop with random brush of the moment-> cinema4d -> render image -> head meet desk -> photoshop -> unholy mother of undo -> rinse -> repeat"
