Title: Text-to-speech question
Post by: asyikarea51 on September 30, 2008, 10:36:34 am
Was looking at the code at random before compiling a new build to use.

Would compiling text-to-speech support be a matter of commenting/uncommenting some specific lines (if so, which ones), or is something special needed, therefore I should not bother and wait for the official 3610 release instead?

No way I can go back to a 369 build after all the playing around with the tables; too many table options not in it and it'll crash straightaway after parsing only a few lines of text... :doubt:

:)

Honestly, I'd wait for the official 3.6.10. It might already be inside. And I actually rather have no speech than have Microsoft SAM.

I don't really like it either, but to each their own.

Compiling in the speech options requires you to add the FS2_SPEECH compiler flag to the list already present. You must also have the MS SAPI includes and libraries somewhere in your path.

If that means nothing to you...wait. :D

Well, if voice works in the Launcher, then is that any indicator? Or is this like Debian -dev packages where runtime and development files are seperate and/or I'm supposed to have a bunch of libraries or an SDK SOMEWHERE in a folder in my computer? :lol: I n00b... I know Windows does things like that but IMO the drawn line is more blur in the eyes of an end-user.

:lol: what do you mean by "means nothing"? That I don't understand (which is true... kinda), or that if I don't care, I should wait? xDDDDDDD

#ifndef FS2_SPEECH :nervous: :shaking: :lol:

Either way I don't mind waiting since 3610 is very close to being declared official, and minimal changes in SVN is proof of it... I admit my level of patience sucks, but things like these aren't "full-time jobs" and I can understand it. :)

Nope. That just means that Windows knows how to deal with the end product. To be able to compile it you need to have the appropriate libs and includes. I've zipped up the important bits of the SDK and attached them. You should be able to build using VC6 with them. I've had trouble getting 2005 to compile with them though.
