Title: Standard Beam Issue
Post by: Arkangel on October 02, 2008, 08:35:16 am
When using the Blue Planet mod on my pc the standard GTVA beams (green and orangey/brown... you know, the Vasudan ones) show particles being attracted to the beam turret but there is no charge, no glow. All i see is a straight beam originating from the rough vicinity of the beam turret.

Is there anyway to alter this without importing the ones from mediavp?

I'm afraid Blue Planet requires the MediaVPs. Is that the issue?

You mean you don't have a glowing ball of light from which the devastating beam of death, destruction and ownage doth spilleth forth to wreak death, destruction, ownage, pwnage, pwnsomness on the enemy?

I believe there were some issues with the beam animations in the 3.6.10 beta VPs; I know the Shivan beams in particular looked rather wonky for me.  They'll be addressed in the final release, so just sit tight until then.

Uh yeah, that one

Don't think so, im using the mediavps but they seem to work fine on everyother campaign/mod. Beams are of a blue planet build though - theyre just a pure line of colour, no mesmorising patterns

The 3.6.9 Media VPs work absolutely fine on my PC, if you don't want to wait for the full release of 3.6.10.

Have no phear. I have the answer. The problem is caused by incorrect tabling with regards to beams. It is not an issue caused in anyway by BP. Darius you may breathe easy.

The extremely complicate (in some ways) explanation may be found here. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56551.0.html)

But the mediavps work fine for every other mod for me

It's because this particular mod uses its own weapons.tbl which uses entries from the 3.6.9 mediavps. I'm going to put all the BP weapons into a tbm, which should increase the compatibility of the mod.

Most big mods out there decide, "Oh, we're far too good for mediavps, we'll go break compatibility" which is a fundamentally idiotic idea (if it's a TC that's a different story though).

I reckon that all mods should use .tbm ... But maybe that's just because Kara chewed me out for modifying the root tables directly.

Yep. Me too. I wonder how many people Kara's chewed out for not using modular tables ...
