Title: Earth Alliance Civil War : missions 1 and 2 :
Post by: Skullar on October 09, 2008, 04:01:58 am
It was always meant to be a 3-mission teaser, but due to the desertion of a crucial voiceactor who simply disappeared I decided to leave it with this first mission.

The mission is en entire cutscene and has no playable part at all, credits are only placeholders so far.
it was made to give you an impression of the atmosphere EACW wants to create.

Download it here : http://babylon.hard-light.net/CivilWar/EACW_mission_1_teaser.vp

Also : mission 2 : http://babylon.hard-light.net/CivilWar/EACW_mission_2_teaser.vp

I recommend everyone downloads this. If you like it, and you will, give Skullar the support he needs with regards to voice acting if you want to see more of this astonishingly high quality work.

well, that was one awesome cutscene! I really liked it, and can't wait for more (if you still need voice actors, I could send you a sample with my voice, so that you can see whether or not you can use it...)

but... Since I don't really know alot about TBP in terms of graphic effects, I am not sure if it's normal that way: why can I see stars in hyperspace? I've never seen those in any other TBP mission (maybe I just didn't pay attention then, because I was flying)... If it were possible to remove those, this cutscene would be even better.

you can see stars in Hyperspace because Skullar forgot to use a text editor to set them to zero.

anyway, great teaser.

Did I upload the wrong vp-file ???? damnit !

Well, actual mission has no stars, so just ignore.

well, that could explain it... if there are no stars in the final, if have nothing to say but: very good job Skullar!

Nice Teaser, nice RW-references, nice work.

As for voice acting, if you want me to send a sample, send me a message.

To make sure: I just drop the .vp file into the main TBP folder, correct?
Title: Re: Earth Alliance Civil War : mission 1 teaser HERE :
Post by: Nordwin on October 09, 2008, 03:38:16 pm
that's what I did and it worked... you just have to open it through the mission simulator....

The preferred installation method would be to create a folder under your main TBP folder and put it there (EACW or Skullar would be good choices).  Then set the mod in the launcher to that directory.  This keeps your TBP installation clean and easier to support if something does go wrong.

Anyone fancy posting this on youtube?

Little late to post, but I was very very impressed by the video. The scripting and conversation between the scenes was really neat. The story itself is really enhanced by the voice-acting and the cinematic gives it a really strong emphasis when it comes to overall character development. Awesome!

One thing, though. You may want to disable keyboard commands or something, because Shift-. can really mess up the cinematic

If you want I can upload it to the ModDB page or if you have an account over there let me know your login and I'll send you an invite to the group.

I have no account, but a 5 minute teaser is not worth being uploaded. Youtubing the video as ingame footage is a better idea :)

I am busy assembling voiceacting scripts.

Well it wouldn't hurt to put the video both places.  Got to be better then my in game screenshot slide show that's currently up.  Besides downloaded are starting to taper off and new content will bump us to the front page.  Front page = free advertising = more downloads.   ;7

Well, you do as you want to.... I am satisfied with visiting THIS forum at moment :)

Glad you all liked it people and thanks for the recommendations.

EACW is a campaign that emphasis atmopshere, and mission 1 was necessary to give a strong start, so people don't loose interest before even starting to play the campaign.

*wearing moderator hat*
if you volunteer for voice-acting, please do so in the appeal for voice actors thread

EDIT: just noticed you actually did that. No offense.

There is. Get him a machine with decent specs and a registered version of FRAPs and he might be able to help you out ;).

Although not intended, I give you mission 2 also :

http://babylon.hard-light.net/CivilWar/EACW_mission_2_teaser.vp

Its the destruction of Earthforce 1 from Hale's point of view.

In exchange for downloading, someone makes a mission1-FRAPS-video and uploades at youtube, k ? ;)  :D

Spoiler:
Skullar, that is by god one of the most realistic recreation of B5 S1 ending EVER.

I mean,  when I first thought that this mission was to be only talking and no action, I was geniunly feeling the urge to quit right there, but by damm I would have not forgiven myself if I would have done it. The very dialogue is a reason to keep playing the thing.

Great work skullar!!

I made a vid with fraps and created an account on youtube. So far so good.
But the limitations of youtube are a bit annoying...

    *  Videoformat: MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid)
    * Resolution: 640 x 480 Pixel
    * Audioformat: MP3
    * FPS: 30
    * Max. Length: 10 Minutes ( recommended are 2 - 3 Minutes)
    * Max. Filesize: 1 GB

I made a fullscreen vid with 1024*768, the current filesize is over 2 GB ( the not edited version has ~ 4GB ).

Anyone know a other FREE video hoster ( like stage6.divx - which is sadly closed... :( )?

I'll try to reduce the filesize further, but the quality sucks...hm, could test it with the Divx HD converter.

640*480 is more than enough !!!! even less would do fine....

fps 25 is enough,  and the first mission is 5 minutes anyway...

no fancy HD-stuff, thats not necessary.

Post by: Angelus on October 15, 2008, 02:01:39 pm
Ok, have to resize the vid, 'cause even with the lowest settings in fraps, the vid has 1.5GB.

do you have sound, though? because I couldn't record the sound with my unregistered version of FRAPS 99...

Yes, sound works. That's one of the reasons why the filesize is that big.

Anyway, started converting...

EDIT: ...uploading...

Hi Folks!
I finally made my move back to TBP (well partially) ... and I stumbled across this EACW-beginning and glad it got running and turns out to this top-quality "product"
Keep it up!

ps. Skullar, my re-texturing fenzie from yesterday produced something more useful than wierd retextures of the Earthforce warships - maybe you want to use it....

More stuff for the "unfinished" folder  :(     Well, Skullar has aimed insanely high with this.

No, I just got stuck on that mission that simply doesnt went the way I wanted it.
I aimed high, bit on the other hand ... everytime I HAD time I got a mission complete in 2-3 days :)

I didnt aim too high, I just have to do everything myself !!! ;)

I know this. On the other hand, I would't let anybody even close to get his or her hands on my FortuneHunters (but FUBAR), I fred this campaign until it's how I want it  :)
