Title: New mediavps Banner Image
Post by: Aardwolf on October 11, 2008, 06:53:27 pm
For use as the little image that appears when you select mediavps as the active mod in the launcher. May require a simple mod.ini file, if you don't already have one.

Remember to convert it to a .bmp file when you set it up.

Also available with an alpha channel for transparency (for use in things that support it).

I updated the version with the alpha channel to fit the entire sunburst effect into the image. It is no longer the same width as the banner images, but oddly the height remained the same.

I also made a new version of the opaque image which doesn't crop off the top of the sunburst effect, but this does not have the same dimensions.

Looks awesome!

Hey, that reminds me. Did 3.6.10 core switch in that new green-background loading screen for missions? I don't like it as much as the original.

How did you make that?

All of these have been done in GIMP over the course of several hours, starting with FS2.bmp (included in Turey's installer).

A version with the metal color being closer to that of the original:

This took a while to make. I tried to reproduce the technique I used for the above images, applying it to a higher-resolution GTVA insignia. I made the high-res insignia myself, so the shape isn't exactly right, but whatever.

Is there a way you can make an icon version of that for the executable itself?  I think the icon would look better without the "flare".

This, I think, could be used to make a nice SCP logo.

Nice and futuristic/post-Capella age interface.

 :bump:

Hey, phreak messaged me shortly after I made this thing and said he could get the icon used in the EXE if I tweaked it to be shaped right.

I messaged him back just now detailing what I would need in order to be able to do that, and telling him to bump this thread. Unfortunately, I decided to bump it myself and am too lazy to wait for him to copy & paste the stuff I sent him. Sorry, phreak.

I could probably make [that icon] fairly easily -- however, there is one thing that I would need to do that -- the part that took the longest to get right making the original, and which I got stuck on doing the remake. I would need a GIMP file (.xcf) which contains a path outlining the shapes -- the swirl part and the three bars part (if possible, kept separate and with the three bars not interrupted where they will pass under the swirl). Then I could repeat the procedure I used to make the original(s) fairly easily.

Aardwolf, do you mind if I use this image for a SCP car for TrackMania United?

That's fine, but it doesn't help make a suitable icon for the FSO executable  :p

I know. Sorry, but I can't help you on that.

I thought I should just ask for permission first.

Personally I'd rather the default SCP build icon stay what it is now, although FRED still needs an icon upgrade.
