Title: Video demonstration - UED Solaris
Post by: Darius on October 12, 2008, 02:38:07 am
Here's (http://www.xfire.com/video/31bc6/) a video preview of the mission "Forced Ejection", where a Federation strike force attacks a GTVA blockade at the Delta Serpentis node. Midway through, the UED Eris jumps in and proceeds to lay waste to two Deimos corvettes. Also demonstrates my lack of dogfighting skills. :P

Music and sounds are ingame. Mission is subject to change between now and when it's released.

Great video! I'm assuming the Solaris is in trouble when it has to face an unnutured Titan.

One thing that bothers me: Why are the Terrans of the future using Zeus bombers. Those where outdated during the fs2 campaign. Why don't they use Artemis DH instead or you could borrow the Athena Mk. 2(from Trashman was it?).

Also those heavy railguns look awesome. How many shot did it take to blow a Deimos.

That video is cool! I always liked your flak graphics . . . looks so pretty.

It's like, "Oops, just 10 seconds to slow, sorry man," to the dying Deimos corvettes.

Also those heavy railguns look awesome. How many shot did it take to blow a Deimos.

Think it was about 8-9 for one.

Fear the Solaris!

I haven't watched it yet.

EDIT - Now I have.

And my mind is blown. Absolutely, 100% blown.

The ships were pretty, the music was really good, but the main highlight for me were those weapons... Seriously cool, those weapons. I loved the grenade launcherl, that was supar cool. I really liked those sweet salvo turrets, the funny trail turrets, the blue things, the other blue things and the flak things. You've really fleshed out the United Earth fleet and weapons...

To say you did a good jawb would be the understatement of the century, but I'll say it anyway. Good jawb.

Oh, wow.

I've been reading a bunch of psychological research on the effects of music on experience. I really think BP's music choices help make it what it is.

The grenade launcher was beautiful, as was the Solaris. And I rather like the 'Forced Entry' reference in the mission title.

Much win!
Those corvettes got wasted. I wonder how the next part will turn out. The Titan will obviously win in terms of sheer firepower...though I've found it tends to lose its main beams a lot, especially when facing powerful projectile weapons.

Wow.  That was really good   Pretty intense too...

May I ask what the other UEF ship in the battlefield was (the one that was there from the beginning).  There weren't many shots of it (and the ones that there were were brief and blurry), so maybe I am mistaken, but it didn't look like a Karuna or a Solaris to me...
Title: Re: Video demonstration - UED Solaris

Whatever it is, it looks like it has a massive spinal-mounted weapon. It was shooting big blobs at the Titan in the beginning. Some sort of Monitor/Siege Gun ship?
Or is it the Sanctus?

You know that The Babylon Project has salvo turrets for more than a year now?

Anyway I can't wait to finally get into part two of BP.
Were does the music come from? I read before something about "Immediate music" but that doesn't tell me much...

Look for Immediate Music - Lacrimosa, then watch the video again. You can hear part of it in the Blue Planet video's music but it's very heavily edited.

TBP downloads aren't friendly...they're too big and unmanageble even with programs like Star Downloader. Dialup users and other people with slow connections simply can't get the mod.

I don't know if the name is Italian, Lacrimosa's just the name of the song, while Immediate Music are the creators of the music you hear in movie previews, take the song Arcana for example which was used in one of the trailers for Ghost Rider (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gK-6yhCwZjk  being the song itself and http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tf_LpBfSwfM  being the trailer with the song).

And I just found out the battle music isn't a Lacrimosa remix, it's actually another song from Immediate Music, Spiritus Elektros.
Title: Re: Video demonstration - UED Solaris
Post by: Darius on October 17, 2008, 07:10:16 am
The music at the beginning stages of the clip is from the Immediate Music project under the artist name of Globus. The song is Preliator, a remix of Lacrimosa.

To both replies above this new post:
One of them as Darius said is a remix of Lacrimosa from Immediate Music, and the battle music is Spiritus Elektros, also from Immediate Music, both are found in Themes for Orchestra and Choir 1, Disk 1.

I think that the people of Earth have reached a stage of spiritual development that's taken them past killing each other. It's a shame the GTVA can't live up to it.

Or maybe I'm wrong!

I disagree...
Just because they stopped fighting among each other doesn't mean they are perfectly safe. Who knows how many other species are out there (not even considering the constant threat of the Shivans). And if the Humans have no military at all, any of those "spiritually less advanced" races could just conquer or annilihate the Humans at their leisure if they don't resist.

And since the Humans, to my knowledge, don't know how jump point come into being, they can't just assume they are perfectly safe, since anytime a new jump point can form that connects them to another races terretory, or worse Shivan terretory.
After all the Humans in Sol know nothing of the reasons for the Shivans hostility or the Shivan-Vishnan relations. They just know the Shivans want to annihilate them.

I'm guessing Darius has probably accounted for that, yes.
Title: Re: Video demonstration - UED Solaris
Post by: Darius on November 03, 2008, 05:18:23 am
I have, but it's a good discussion point.

Ok, let me rephrase it :) They wouldn't need a military if they as an entire culture had achieved true spiritual enlightenment/evolution. Once you get to that stage you can't destroy the society through military means because they're at a stage where their power has moved beyond mere earthly military ability (somewhat like the transcended Teek (Ironheart) from Babylon 5 without the overt "energy being" status he gained). Ultimately it's a process that's going to take a while to achieve.

Until then, yes, maintaining a military would be justified but it would be unpopular with the spiritual leaders for what it implies.
Title: Re: Video demonstration - UED Solaris
Post by: Androgeos Exeunt on November 03, 2008, 08:27:20 am
So you mean the UEF are close to either:

1. having Shivan-like strength; or
2. attaining god powers?
Title: Re: Video demonstration - UED Solaris
Post by: General Battuta on November 03, 2008, 08:46:30 am
I think the kind of ascendance Darius is discussing is more subtle than that. Something spiritual.

Oh, and, I lied: the gun that goes 'chunkchunkchunk' in the preview is the Storm Fire secondary, not the grenade launcher. The grenade launcher is the one that makes flak-like bursts; you can see it fired against the bomber attack early in the vid.
Title: Re: Video demonstration - UED Solaris
Post by: -Norbert- on November 04, 2008, 02:19:21 pm
I didn't think you'd go that route and really only meant something like Mahatma Ghandi or the Dalai Lama when talking about spiritual enlightenment.
While those two are (or were) spiritually far ahead of the rest of mankind, they were still only Human and thus can be hurt of killed by weapons.

Wait, at 2:00 there's this greenish ship that I don't recall seeing on the site. :eek2:

Was that Solaris destroyer called the Eris? :nervous:

Yeah. It's the UED Eris.
Why?

Sharp eyes :)

There's a better shot of it elsewhere in the video if you look carefully.

I've always thought that is was just a UEF Kentauroi/FTF Jackal.
Also, what are the two ships that launch from the UED Eris at 2:23?

At 3:20? The shape of it looks like it would be something --Steve-O-- would make but I've never seen it before.

The Kentauroi has ludicrously long exhaust flames, and I believe the two ships launched from the Eris at 2:23 are the Durga bombers, judging by the engine configuration.

Having just finshed Stargate SG-1, this makes me think of the Ancients

If you never saw Babylon 5, that's actually a good way of describing what became of Ironheart, only that in his case it wasn't enlightenment that brought his change about, but the Psi Corps' experiments on him to enhance his already quite strong psychic powers (he was a P10; the strongest Human telepath' ever registered were P12.... I know there is this one person in the books who was a P13, but apart from his most trusted allies noone knew he even was a telepath, so no official record. And Lyta's change never found it's way into any official records either I'd bet).

Needless to say that Babylon 5 was there even before the Star Gate movie was made.
On the other hand Star Trek: Next Generation (Q being the most obvious example, but there were others too) had energy lifeforms even earlier (maybe The Original Series too... if you count that thing that was the manifested hatred of some species wiped out in a war hounding their killers or something like that), but I think Babylon 5 did a much better job with "their" energy lifeforms, as with so many other aspects.

Actually the Star Trek:TOS had many examples of energy beings.

But I agree. B5 did do a better job with their energy biengs than stargate or Star Trek.
Im a big B5 fan...

However, I recently finished watching Stargate SG1 from start tp finish - That is why I said that the term "Ascended beings" makes be think of the Stargate Ancients/Lanteans/Alterans...Whatever they were called.

But anyway i look forward to seeing how the Big Dee reallises this...Maybe the Solar Terrans have become very close to being the Ulitmate bhuddist (No offence to any followers of Bhuddism)

For some reason were I life the TV stations only ever show Next Generation or Voyager and very seldom Deep Space Nince at times I can actually watch them.
The last time I really watched TOS must now be some 10 to 15 years in the past, so it's not too surprising that I don't remember too many details I guess...

But your right, the Ancients are a bit closer to what we discussed, since both in B5 and Star Trek the energy beings became that way by physical evolution rather than spriritual enlightenment like the ones in Stargate. I didn't think of that at first.

Right when you go to the Eris, then engage a couple Zeuses, theres a quick shot of some ships that reminds me of something from I THINK B5... dang  :eek2:

I guess you're talking about the Karuna Frigate, which has design similarities to the Omega Destroyer in terms of rotating section, bow shape, and fighterbay location.

Not exact mind you, but the features are inspired from the design.

That's an artillery ship.
IMO, it looks more like an Upsized UM-4 Tachyion gun (from Steve-O's fighterpack).

I commented on this at great length once...

The Zetars, the Beta XII-A Entity, Gorgon, "God" from ST V:TFF, Redjac, Medusans, Companion, Dikironium cloud creature, Sargon's People may count as by the time of TOS, only their minds existed

ST:TOS had energy/gaseous beings coming out the ears.

I was trying not to get quite that in depth. I stated only the two most memorable examples, plus one from an episode recently watched.

That video is amazing. Really looking forward to this game, even though it pains me to see Human on Human warfare.

Terran vs. Terran's the most intense though, they always get all the new ships and weapons.

Yes...I must admit, that in sci-fi i have a thing for Terran-vs-Terran civil war.
