Hi all. \o
This is my first post here and i would first like to say your doing a great job and im hopefully looking forward to
hosting a BTRL server but please forgive my possible ignorance as ive never played FS or FS2.
Essentially I cannot host a game with the 3_6_9 build as that build is unplayable on my pc. Thread here (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6012)
To save me writing everything down again i will also direct you to this thread (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6698) on the BTRL forums to do
with the main problem i have starting a server with the 3_6_10 builds, as all of it is posted there.
After reading that my question is, can the PXO art Kara is talking about be added to a 3_6_10 build please so i can host a btrl server?
I read the feature requests were closed on the main page but i can't host a game if this isnt in
and i suspect neither can anyone else, unless i'm now showing my ignorance.
Thanks in advance.

It's not that the art needs to be added to the build. The build is working fairly well right now. BtRL would need to include that art as part of its data that the game uses, which they currently do not. I'm afraid that if 3.6.9 doesn't work for you right now, you may not be able to use the in-game gamefinding with BtRL at all, at least not right now. The art does not go in the interface folder in your root BtRL folder, it goes in the interface folder in the data folder, in your root BtRL folder. So not \BtRL\interface\, but instead \BtRL\data\interface\. If it does not exist you can go ahead and create the folders yourself. However, if someone were to package these files up as a patched .vp file, you could hopefully just put the new vp file in your root BtRL folder.

Art is not part of builds, so the short answer is no. It would be up to the BtRL team to supply the art files for their mod.
You can, however, grab the files from any retail FreeSpace 2 installation. What you need are these:
2_PXOChat-M.pcx
2_PXOChat.pcx
2_PXOHelp-M.pcx
2_pxologo.ani
2_PXOPop-M.pcx
2_PXOPop.pcx
2_pxp_000001.pcx
2_pxp_000002.pcx
2_pxp_010001.pcx
2_pxp_010002.pcx
2_RAB_000001.pcx
2_RAB_000002.pcx
2_RAB_010001.pcx
2_RAB_010002.pcx
PXHelp.PCX
PXOChat-M.PCX
PXOChat.PCX
PXOHelp-M.PCX
PXOLogo.ani
PXOPop-M.PCX
PXOPop.pcx
pxp_000001.pcx
pxp_000002.pcx
pxp_010001.pcx
pxp_010002.pcx
RAB_000001.pcx
RAB_000002.pcx
RAB_010001.pcx
RAB_010002.pcx
Grab those from retail FreeSpace 2 installation (Good Old Games one will have them, for example), dump them in your btrl/data/interface folder, and you should be good to go.

Brilliant! ;)
Thanks guys. im looking into buying a copy of FS2 now.
GOG arnt' accepting new apps just yet it seems but just to confirm...i need freespace or freespace 2?
-
freespace or freespace 2?
2. FS1 is something, but everything else is more or less related to FS2.
-
Freespace 2. It's about $6. Best $6 you'll ever spend too.
edit: bugger it, he beat me.
And lobo, what are you talking about, it's something? Don't confuse the guy, speak in whole sentences. He needs FS2 for those files, but I do suggest playing FS1 and FS2 both if you haven't.
-
Who's confusing what now?
FS1 is kool 'n all, but it's separate. It's just itself. Everything else either is FS2 or descends from FS2. Sure, playing the original FS1 is sure to be an experience of sorts, but the point is that it must be kept separate from BtRL and the likes.
-
Ok FS2 it is.
$6! i wish.
Cheapest non ebay price here in the UK is £17.79 which is about $31 ^^

Well, $6 at GOG. I thought they still accepted beta testers. Though I suppose they may have seized to do so, if they plan to officially launch the site.
-
I still get the box to enter in my email and signup. Although I may have an access key if someone didn't use it yet.
-
Just bought a new, sealed retail box of FS2 on ebay for £11.99 \o/
In the meantime im D/L via the FS Installer, should be done by the time i get home from work.
Im guessing those files will be in the interfaces folder once fsopen has finished D/L?
-
The installer doesn't have the files you need as it no longer installs the retail files, only the FS2 open ones.

If you have FS2 and you've installed it, they're inside the files sparky_fs2.vp and sparky_hi_fs2.vp. They can be accessed with a vp viewing program. But not to worry. I just extracted them and will upload them temporarily momentarily. Stand by...
Edit: Here we go (http://koti.mbnet.fi/reiler/FunkyFreeSpaceStuff/pxo.zip).
-
No, they will be packaged into .vp files. You need to open sparky_hi_fs2.vp (requires a program that can read them - VPview (http://www.descent-network.com/descman/) will do nicely), and (using VPview) select 'interface' in the column to the left, select the files from the list on the right, and finally use the 'Extract to Dir' option from the Action menu at the top.
[Edit] Or grab the ones Lobo is uploading. Much easier :D
-
Also note that you must have the FSO files and the retail FS2 in the same folder, since FSO will not run without the retail files. If you're running the Installer now but haven't installed FS2 yet, don't do anything after the download is complete. Install FS2 to the same folder before doing anything else. Then, run the Launcher.exe and do all the stuff mentioned in all the manuals and FAQs. And install OpenAL (http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx).

<3 you all
LOL My reply to Kara was going to be "Aww Pants! :blah:!" :)
Just D/L the zip thanks Lobo, i will be giving this a try when i get home from work tomorrow morning.
Im sure that VPView will come in handy too Shade.
Youve all been a great help, im looking forward to getting a game on.
*Addition when posting*
NP Lobo, i will wait for my FS2 retail to turn up, i just want to be able to host a BtRL server for now.
I will probably spend the next few weeks playing FS2 when it turns up :)
For now its off to work.
Fly safe and again thanks for all the help.
*EDIT*
Should that be good hunting?
