Title: Campaign Editor crashes immediately
Post by: Krelus on October 16, 2008, 01:25:21 pm
No matter which FRED2 SCP build I use, the Campaign Editor immediately borks and the whole thing crashes. It's only started in the last few days, so I'm curious as to why this is suddenly happening.

Try running the debug build of FRED.  I think this is a know bug.  As to why that is the real question.

With Taylor's help I think I've got an idea what is causing this one . I'll just have to find some time to read up on CFILE and fix it.

Debug came up clean. My main version of FRED is "fred2_open_3_6_10r-20080723_CHIEF_4712.exe". Plain old 3.6.9 doesn't work either, though.

OK, I've come up with a stopgap solution. I'll just install FS2 on another computer, move the missions over with a flash drive and set up the campaign linking on that one. Hell, that'll have the pleasant side-effect of having my mission and campaign info in three different places (PC number 1, PC number 2, and USB drive) in case of a catastrophic hard-disk failure.

EDIT: OK, found a massively less inconvenient solution. Just use the default non-SCP FRED2. I can't think of any reason why using a non-SCP campaign editor would be TOO much of an issue.

ANOTHER EDIT: Alright... after some troubleshooting, it seems that I've somehow fsked up my FS2 game directory in ways I cannot even comprehend. Screw it, I'm just gonna reinstall.
