I'm sorry if this was posted before. I have a serious problem concerning Freespace 1. I bought the retail version of the game and needed to update through a patch. But the patch doesn't patch at all. It says that thefile it needs to patch isn't there and the file that is there is a file of the same name. But since the contents do not match, no update was done. How can I fix it?
Also when installing Freespace Open, I can't play either Freespace 1 or Silent Threat. I can play Freespace 1, but can't since I can't add any weapons to my ships , nor can I hear any voice when the briefing is played.
thnx
Mike

Hmmm...
Could you post yoyur system specs and OS up on the Forum? With some more info we might be able to help out with the little problem.
And before I forget and be fed to the resident Shivan:

Be welcomed and hang about. There's a veritable shedload of mods out there well worth playing.

1. I do hope you've installed FSO over FS2. It must not be associated with retail FS1 in any way.
2. If you mean that you've tried to play FSPort with FSO, it would sound as if you've forgotten to select the correct campaign from the in-game Campaign Room. By default the FS2 main campaign is selected. If you have FSPort as a mod and you try to play the FS2 campaign, the issues you mentioned do occur.

my system specs: Windows XP home edition service pack 3
AMD Athlon(tm) XP2200+
1,82 ghz
I have first installed FS2, than FSO. I do know the default campaign is selected when started, even if I select FS1, I don't hear any voice nor can I add any weapons to my ship. Silent Threat doesn't work at all.

Please run a debug build (an FSO executable with the file name ending in "debug" or "d") and post fs2_open.log from your \freespace2\data\ folder.

can't open that function on the fact that it can't find the file openal32.dll. It seems the Openinstaller didn't install that file.

You are correct, it doesn't install it, you need to get the file from the link in the thread listed above :)

Ah, the OpenAL issue <3
As mentioned in both of the stickied threads on this board. OpenAL is also available through the link in my signature.

S3... wow... that is old skool.
Well hmm... you can pretty much forget using mediavps, and a... hmm... i doubt opengl is going to work.

Searching root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\data\missions\fsport-missions.vp'
:wtf: If you want to play FSPort, you'll ned to have all FSPort files. And they must be in \freespace2\fsport\.
Searching root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\data\cbanim.vp'
Dunno what that is. Move it away.
In addition, 16-bit colours have a tendency to cause issues. 32-bit would be preferrable. Also, 1024x768 is so much more fun than 640x480. But, as Wanderer already said, you're rather ****ed up with an S3 graphics card. The easiest, though certainly not the cheapest, course of action is for yout o invest into new hardware.
