Title: Cubic Skyboxes
Post by: 0rph3u5 on October 22, 2008, 07:55:07 am
I'm about to try something - but in order if it is do-able at all I've got to figure out something first:
do skyboxes for FS_Open always have to spherical or semi-spherical? or can they be cubic as well?
if yes - does someone has cubic-skybox model and can go messing around?

Cubic skyboxes are all ok for fs2_open. If I remember good, there was some cubic ones in TBP.

they can be pretzel shaped if you want them to be.

Just make sure you can't actually see the box edges - as is the case in one of the UT demo maps...

im mostly familiar with cubic skyboxes, they are easy to make and you can use the same model for each one thing, saving conversion time. but i can see other shapes of skyboxes making more efficient use of texture space. i actually wrote a tutorial for this but im not sure whatever become of it.
