Title: Better voice synthesizers?
Post by: Molybdenum on October 23, 2008, 10:50:17 am
So I recently found this Free Text-to-speech synthesizer. It loads better than Microsoft Sam allowing female voice and a more natural sound. I was wondering if it was possible to convert the sound files from the site to FRED voice-acting files. Sam would probably remain good for Briefings with lost of idle text but wingmates and characters you can relate to(like in Blue Planet) could use at least gender-specific voice overs.

The free version has a 200 char limit. But that should be enough for in mission messages.

A minor detail: Blue Planet is being voice acted.

Use windows sound recorder or goldwave to record the playback. Or use fruityloop studio demo which has better voice synth :)

Does goldwave cost?

There's a free version with a 2000 command limit - but there is a way to beat the version 5.12 demo...nwer versions have been fixed though. Anyway, there should be others around? Is Audacity free? It's about the same standard as Goldwave, I think.

Even so, you can probably download a different version of GW every time the demo runs out, or put it on a recordable only CD, etc.

Another important thing, a mere detail:

FRED has nothing to do with synth voice. It depends on the FSO build. This is the wrong forum to discuss it... :)
