OK, thick as a brick but...how is the nebulae pack "properly installed"?
I put it where I thought it would go and now nothing is going!
Obviously I hosed up...not bad for an old f-rt!
Help and idiot (ok, again!).

Which nebula pack? There are at least two variants; one packed as a .vp and one that is just a pile'o files. How exactly is "nothing going"? Do you get a crash when trying to start the game or what? Perhaps run a debug build and post the fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data.

Welcome to the HLPBB!!! :D
Youu must be refering to one of the two Lightspeed's Nebulae pack variants, right? If the nebulae are in a .vp file it's all ok, all you need is to put the file in a folder and place that folder in your root FS2 folder. You will then have to adapt the mod.ini file(DLable from The FAQ, check the link in my signature) to your needs to use the pack and eventually the mediavps. :)
If the files aren't sorted in a .vp you need to create a folder named "NebulaPack"(or similar) "data", then a folder named "effects" and place the nebulae in "effects", "effects" in "data" and finally "data" in "NebulaPack"...then follow the same directives posted above for the mod.ini. :D
Question: does the Nebula Pack you have contain a file called stars.tbl? :)

Thanks for the replies!
I am using Lightspeed's Nebula Pack (alleged as the 'final').
I tried (as with campaigns) with the "folder under FS2 main" of (1) mediavps, (2) campaigns of course and (3) LSNB for the nebula pack. When I started a campaign, I got errors up the you know what and campaign did not start (actual crash to desktop).
So, I thought I was doing something wrong with the nebula pack.
I have the "stars.tbl" file but, I have not done anything to or with the "mod.ini" file! (Which I will be checking out per Mobius..thank you!).

So... is it a .vp or a bunch of files?

The \mediavps\ folder is, by far, the best possible place for the LS nebulae.
Perhaps try running a debug build (an FSO .exe that ends with "_debug" or "_d"), then post a file called fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data.

Death from the Crease!
What's with this? With a name like BLT, I'd expect more "Death from the Grease"
-
Wobble73 - (1) Used to be BALT (Bad-assed little terran).
(2) Death from the Crease = a Lacrosse expression often used by Crease Attackmen!
(3) I'm over 60...not too much grease remains!!! (But thanks for the thought)
I have a mass of files (some of which start with "WIP"!)
I placed the files in a \data\nebulae pack sub-directory (not the WIP's).
Will try the de-bug routine and see what I get!
DFTC (Just for Wobble73)

Ah, so you have the non-vp version. In that case the stars.tbl goes to \freespace2\mediavps\data\tables and the rest of the files (ending with .pcx or .tga) go to \freespace2\mediavps\data\effects. Create these subdirectories if/when necessary.
And indeed do provide us the fs2_open.log. Since the LS nebulae should not be able to break anything. There might be something else that is wonky on your end.
