as we may all know, the fs2 retail files have been removed from the fso installer because of some idiot posting on the interplay forums. but as i may recall, fs2 is abandonware and states in the terms of agreement when you are installing it that you are allowed to make copies of the game and hand it out to people for non profit. I believe that HLP is a non profitable organisation, so therefore we should be allowed to use it in the installer

 Most of us know that the retail files were removed (by Turey since it is his Installer), because we now have a legitimate distributor (GOG) for FreeSpace.

It isn't.

Be that as it may. FS2 is still commercial software and if there is a reliable distributor for the games, HLP will not hand out the retail files in any way. Excluding patches.
And I'm moving this since this is not a support request, but rather a few poorly argumented opinions.

So... your rationale is that because we're all friends we should be allowed to exploit an obscure detail in the EULA that is close to ten years old (and, as stated in itself, subject to change whenever Interplay feels like it) and thus avoid supporting Interplay and GoodOldGames by paying a nominal fee of $6 (six dollars for pie's sake, if you can't afford that you shouldn't be able to afford a computer in the first place)?
...no. Just no. The EULA argument will never hold in any court if a hoster of FS2 retail files get's called on it by copyright holders. It is meant for physical copies of the game, not widespread file hosting.
As Karajorma so succintly put it...
Anyone caught posting links to FS2 for download other than an official site such as GoG will be banned. I don't care what bull**** reason they give for it.
GoG proved to be a very cool bunch of people over the whole thing with LuaPineapple and even if they hadn't they are the only people with the legal right to distribute the game on the internet. I'm not having some halfwit drag the entire site down because they've decided to upload warez in strict violation of the board's policy.
I believe that settles the matter...
