<nitpick>

It looks like the cockpit glass does not perfectly match to the spar in the middle, you can kinda see "past" it into the cockpit from both ahead and from behind, though the frontal view is by far easier to see.

It isn't very visible problem but a problem it is nevertheless...

</nitpick>

ಥ_ಥ Beautiful... It looks... magnificent. One of my very favourite FreeSpace ships ever, and now it looks the part as well. Many thanks. :)

That's ironic, me and galemp were just talking the other day about how we wanted it for our own various uses... In any case,
Edit: VA is right about that glass...
Edit2: Replace VA with Herra  :p

Indeed. Herra Tohtori, the man with the undisputed Hi-Fi Eye, is right about that glass.

doesn't mean I don't like this yours, BTW very well done! better than anything I could come up with.

VA's one is still incomplete.

Post by: Mobius on October 27, 2008, 03:15:03 pm
NTV and INFA definitely need a HTL Valkyirie...the problem is, which one? :nervous:

EDIT: Maybe VA can turn his Valk into a HTL Angel?
Title: Re: Release: ValkyrieHTL
Post by: Galemp on October 27, 2008, 04:21:46 pm
This is the most beautiful one I've seen and it's going into the Port MVP.

Not to mention it's the only one that's actually finished.
Title: Re: Release: ValkyrieHTL
Post by: Mobius on October 27, 2008, 04:25:34 pm
Is the other one promising?

Now that I think of it those two alternate HTL Valkyries remind me of BtRL and Diaspora... :nervous:

The one that's done automatically wins until the other one is done too.
No need to worry about it yet.

We already have a HTL Angel. And the HTL Angel is based on VA's Valk anyway...
Title: Re: Release: ValkyrieHTL
Post by: Herra Tohtori on October 27, 2008, 05:44:39 pm
Meh, you could have two versions from different subcontractors. Fighter planes have a looong history of havign a lot of different versions of same basic model; aside from worrying about exceeding the supported number of ships there's no reason not to have them both.
Title: Re: Release: ValkyrieHTL
Post by: Mobius on October 27, 2008, 06:00:48 pm
Yes but you can't have two different Valkyries in the FreeSpace Port, I think.
Title: Re: Release: ValkyrieHTL
Post by: Jadehawk on October 27, 2008, 06:23:27 pm
Maybe VC can make his an SOC Valkyrie? Like the Ezechiel I'm working on. There is currently a GTF and SOC version.  Plus, Fighters and Bombers throughout history have always been and always will be upgraded. He can even make an Mk 1a or Mk II. I like having 31 flavors to choose from in ice cream, why not here? ;)
Title: Re: Release: ValkyrieHTL
Post by: Mobius on October 27, 2008, 06:27:36 pm
I know but FreeSpace doesn't allow minor upgrades without a new table entry. What would VA's Valk be, a GTF Valkyrie+?

What I don't like is that this sort of "accidents" occur...two modellers work on the same ship and provide the community with two different versions of it while there are many ships in need of upgrades, like the Arcadia and the Colossus... :(

Never would have found that.  ;)  In Blender I hide the glass object, and in the lab couldn't spot it. I'll fix it, but will wait for any other errors.

A thanks to Galemp for pushing for a bit more curves, the remaining balance of boxy and curves works really well.

I won't be turning mine into a SOC version (they didn't exist back then anyway), Angel or any other Valkyrie variant. It'll simply be my HTL interpretation of one of my favourite FS1 fighters.

We can figure out which version goes where when mine is finished (which won't be for a while due to more pressing projects), but not now and not in Water's release thread. ;)

I think the community would LIKE someone to be inspired to make those ingame.
As well as the Sathanas.

Yes, to get those in game.
But not to waste time making others, which would be exactly what Mobius said is NOT GOOD to begin with (two modellers working on the same ship and providing the community with two different versions of it).

Yeah, it is lacking in the shine department, well the lighter colour anyway. It was lower, but it killed the normal map too much.  :nervous:

Post by: Raven2001 on October 29, 2008, 05:37:00 am
How did you do the shine map? If its killing the normal map too much try putting the height map in overlay mode in the shine map. The darker areas will remain darker that way, so it should preserve the normal map's detail

It seemed to me that too little shine reduced the normal maps spread between dark and light. Mainly the normal map line work on the wings.

The darks (lines) were fine. It may be that I'm describing it badly. It requires a certain amount of panel shine to show those dark lines up properly. Higher specular means greater contrast between the darks and lights. Turning down the specular too much does have a visual cost.

Blowfish is saying that the shinemap is too dark, if I interpret him correctly... and I kinda agree. It looks a tad bit dark when compared to other ships.

Councilor created a Sathanas model but he doesn't know how to get it ingame...doing that should be easier than creating a nice HTL model from, uh, "scratch" simply because the model is already there and most part of the job is done. :)

The mass is one order of magnitude too large. Although it's a simple fix, I thought I'd let you know.

I first noticed it when I was playing Another Great War and one of these beauts smacked into the Comms Station in Failure to Communicate. The Imhotep went far!

The older one is fighter05.pof the new Valkyrie.pof, so you would need to change that in the table.

...Isn't it easier to rename the model to Valkyrie.pof? :nervous: That's what I did.

Of course, including a modular table with stuff like this might be good practice. ;)

That's probably the easier solution  :drevil:

As for modular tables, stopped using them for a while as they didn't work for me ( Didn't notice the ship limit  :nervous:  - sorted now  ;) )

You mean rename the model to fighter05.pof.

I originally did this, but when it didn't work I used a modular table. I then found I had put fighter04.pof instead - the Apollo!

(For some reason, as I looked at 'Apollo' here, I thought 'GTF Apollo - sounds odd!' No idea why.)

Rename the pof to fighter05.pof and put in data\models. The dds textures go in data\maps

Both of those would need to be in the FSport directory.
