Who knew I could do something half-decent? I remembered looking at Raven's stuff and decided I'd take a crack at it. These were made in GIMP with the mouse and mostly the airbrush. The stars were made with HSV>Sparkle>Gaussan-Blur. I'll probably improve as these are my first attempts at this.

reminds me of snes games.
-
Is that a good thing?
-
if you like snes games :blah:
seriously, the pics look "cute".
not a bad start at all.
-
I like that particular type of art and I suck at drawing with or without a mouse so I can appreciate what you've done. If it was high res I might have even made the second one my background :pimp:
-
Read about light, color, values, etc... all the basic fine art stuff. Andrew Loomis's books are especially good :)
And a mouse won't get you far :D
edit: I feel flattered that my art prompted you to give it a shot :)

Here's a current WIP (and my desktop background :D) I say WIP because I'm planing on having a battle that the ship hasn't reached yet.

You're very good for someone who's just using a mouse!
Keep it up.
-
Updated the big one.
-
I like your weapon and thruster effects.
-
Really getting there!
-
A word of advice: using blur makes things blurry.
In other words, don't blue the entire image.
-
All I blurred was the stars, the rest may look blurred because I use the airbrush tool, (don't like the look of hard lines, hate seeing the stair-steps effect of visible pixels)
-
I would take a very small blur brush, then go around the edges of the ships.
-
Another update, the big potatoes aren't quite as helpless as they look.

If that's what potatos look like around your area I recommend you see a doctor immediately. But in any case, you're getting really, really good.

:bump:
Made this one in a few hours. Ignore the weird little thing under the "F".

Reminds me of Vasudans and the GVD Typhon. :nervous:
-
Nice!
-
Update, gave the primitive thingies a reason to be there.

Here's something kind of simple I made in Terragen. Supposed to look like a view from Titan. Rendered Saturn in Blender.

It looks brilliant.
When it comes down to Terragen:
TG + Renderer > TG on Mac > TG on Windows

Here's my newest one, the Scarab.

Those pods on the side actually seperate for the Superluminal Drive, As I'll get around to making eventually, and the tubes on top are hydrogen ramscoops. For use at speeds exceding 30% C or for getting fuel out of a gas giant. In desperate situations they can be reversed, using the same magnetic feilds that collect the hydrogen to focus a stream of plasma straight from the reactor. (not something you'd want to do often)
EDIT:
And here's the Superluminal pods in action.
