Title: Env Mapping and Super Shiny Ships
Post by: dANGER boy on November 03, 2008, 12:11:19 am
So some of the ships in the 3.6.9 Mediavps and also the 3.6.10 beta have some crazy reflections and appear super shiny.  I don't have a list of all the ships but the one that comes first to mind is the Triton (the big Terran transport).  Is there a fix to this?  A modified mediavp?

Thanks.

Those mirrorsyndrome issues were fixed in the betas. If you're still seeing it then you've probably left the 3.6.8 MVPs (there was no 3.6.9) in place there, or have old/rogue files mixed in elsewhere. :)

Also, depending on the build you are using, you may need to turn on -alpha_env

Oops, forgot they didn't have a 3.6.9 mediavp.  I'm using the 3.6.8 zeta currently with the 3.6.9 FS2 build.  I have the 3.6.10 build and the mediavps but I don't use them because they have some bugs and things.  On some of the models the thrusters don't appear.  Anyways, I use the alpha mapping function underneath the experiemental tab but I'm pretty sure I still get them.  I'll test it out right now and see if I do.

Thanks for the fast reply!

Well, if you are using the zeta VPs, then you probably want -alpha_env turned OFF...

Well, with alpha env off I don't get them...but doesn't alpha env make everything look a lot prettier?

And while we're talk about features...under the graphics tab, what do the following features do...The wiki page doesn't give much detail...

Disable motion debris

Only if the maps you are using are designed to use alpha_env, which the zetas aren't.

Disable motion debris

Disables those little particle things that fly past you when you are moving.

Hey, thanks for the help.  One last question...are the 3.6.10 mediavps designed to use alpha env mapping?

Wow, thanks a ton for the help blowfish.  If I could, I'd give you Kudos (worthless online currency)

I can't wait for them to come out with the official releases of the 3.6.10 build and the mediavps.  Not only does it fix the graphic alignment problem I have with a widescreen monitor, the graphics look incredible.

No problem :)  Actually, the official 3.6.10 mediavps should be out soon enough.  That won't fix the graphic alignment problem though, you need a 3.6.10 build for that.
