Title: Fred 2 not reading jump node
Post by: dANGER boy on November 03, 2008, 11:45:47 pm
Got a minor problem with Fred 2 retail.  When I go to the ship selection list to place a new jump node, it cannot be found.  There is the Shivan comm node and then waypoint but no jump node.  Problem with the vps or fred 2 itself?

Thanks for the support.

You probably need the 1.2 patch.  First try placing a ship where you want the jump node then go into the ship editor and see if you can change the class that way.  If you do need the 1.2 patch you I've got it here (http://fubar.org/fubar2/files/fs21x-12.exe)  I don't know if it will work with the GOG version.

No go.  I've already got the 1.2 patch.  It came with the GOG version.  Placing a ship and then try to change it in the ship editor still won't let me see the jump node.  However, Fred 2 Open 3.6.9 does read the jump node.  Could it be a problem with compatibility between Fred 2 retail and the SCP?

Why am I even bothering with Fred 2 retail when we have the open?  Fred 2 Open works kinda weird on my system.  The lighting is way dark and it is almost impossible to see ships, even with multiple suns providing light.  Might be a rendering problem or something...

I'm not entirely sure, but the 3.6.9 version of FRED2 might still have required the -fredhtl command line to activate HTL effects.  Anything from the 3.6.10 branch, which you can find in the Nightly Builds subforum of the SCP forum, should apply it by default.

Double check the file size.  If it's the 1.2 exe it should be 2,981,888 bytes.

I agree FRED2_Open is the way to go though.

The problem is that although GoG does include the v1.2 version of the exes it doesn't include the v1.2 version of root_fs2.vp. You can get that here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/HotUv1.20Pack.rar) but make sure to ONLY copy the VP folder into your FS2 install. I have no idea what would happen if you copied the .exe files.

Sorry karajorma, I disobeyed your orders  :(  I extracted that entire file to my Freespace 2 directory and now the jump node shows up....interesting.  I think the GOG only includes the 1.2 exe files for the game, not Fred 2.  Now the jump node shows up.  But, I'll try using Fred 2 Open 3.6.9 if I can get the lighting to work.  I'm running it in HTL mode (whatever that does)...

You guys are amazing, thanks for the help.

The reason I didn't want you installing the exes is cause the version I have of the FS2.exe isn't actually that well hacked and will still as for the CDs you don't have on certain occasions.

Then again you can just use FS2_Open instead. :)

AH, I see.  The GOG version doesn't seem to have that problem.  Even if it does show up for me, I just use isos.  Mount all three and let the computer do the rest.
