Title: Shields and Cap ships

Hi guys.
I know that there is a lot of talking about shields and cap ships. But I couldn't find the result of these talkings. So is it possible to have shields on cap ships??? For example is it possible to have shields on Sathanas or Colossus or maybe on bigger ship like Gigas ???

Check the wing commander saga mod out, they've made some progress............i think :nervous:

Having asked this before I can tell you now; a simple table edit will be all that's necessary to get a shield on a capital ship, simply adding the "surface shields" flag will suffice, as well as adding the appropriate field to add shields.

However, if you mean a shield like the ones on fighters, you will need to model a triangulated sphere with an invisible texture. I'm not exactly sure how its done though, as I've only done surfaces shield before.

afew problems with the ai using shields in a cap fight, though.

I have been working on something. Something BIG! that has alot to do with shields of all kinds including capship shields.

just wait a few months...

I know Trashman's GTVBS Archangel has shields... That thing is impossible to kill XD

This is something that's been bugging me ever since the SD Lucifer. That ship had shields and considering how long it's been time-wise, you'd think by now The Terrans and Vasudans would have as LEAST a cruiser if not a Cap ship with Shields as standard? As for the shields power, we could make a corporeal agreement on how powerful it should be for reasonable game play. Yet be something worth while to have.

Opinions?

if mods want it, then yeah, that would be cool. however, it sounds as if you want to change the retail missions to incorporate this beast. that's a bad idea.

I haven't tried to shield anything larger than a 2-3km Trek ship...
Never had a real problem.

Erm..surface shields.. it HAD them. Didn't I remove that line?

Anyway, speaking from FoW cannon, the Archy doesn't have shields....yet.

IIRC, the "surface shields" flag doesn't create shield impact effects... yet.

Well, it doesn't. I didn't see any shield effects on the cruiser. Although I used to. It seems utterly random in appearing.

OK I am waiting so... quick quick :)

Hmm btw as I see it is really a "big" problem to make some shielding on Cap ships... Hmm crap.
Bcs I was thinking about making shields on my Prometheus and Daedalus. Well these two ships are really big like Gigas... heh Well I made them so big, bcs I need them to be so big in my campaign :) 
So crap with these shields and cap things...
So our only hope is... waiting for some good MOD??? Or try Stormkeeper's idea...

One thing I've noticed with surface shields is that the impact anim plays when a primary weapon is fired, rather than when the bolt hits.

Doesn't seem to happen for secondaries - has anyone else seen this?

Hmm so my idea was to make not surface but some normal shields on Cap ships. And these shields will last/hold firing from lasers or torpedoes and about 5 shots from beam turret....   But hmm well as I can see it is really difficult...
But I think it is possible to do this... Just there is a lot of work with this...

Jousin just adjust the hit points of the shield to X amount (take the number of the biggest beam you want it to hold against and multiply X5, adjust as needed)

It's not rocket science...  :D

aha Yeah you are right Getter :) But some unexpected crash??? Bcs beams are really hmm troublemaker :D I am not sure but I read something about some crashes with beam turrets and cap shields here on this forum...
Btw nice pic Getter.
OK but hmm I will try to convert/use those shields from SC Rictus and add them to my Prometheus and Daedalus...
Or Getter from which MOD is your pic???  :) So I can try shileds from the ship on the picture :)
