Title: Cockpit pof and track ir
Post by: Reprobator on November 04, 2008, 03:22:40 pm
Hi,
i'm using the 20081031_r4932 nightly build and i'm working on a cockpit for a new fighter.
On my freepsace it seems that the only way to have track ir to work is to have the show ship flag set in the ship.tbl . (i have tryed it on my fighter and on retail's ship)
i m using the 1st february's fs2trackir.dll .
Any way to have the track ir working with the $cockpit pof enabled in the table?

Thank you.

edit : i have tryed to take off the fs2trackir.dll and the track ir didn't worked any more... my trackir software and gamelist are up to date.

give nukemod a try, several ships have cockpits that work with the track ir.

TrackIR will work whether or not if you have a cockpit model rendered. As of October 2, 2008, TrackIR support is built into the executable so you don't need FS2TrackIR.dll.

yea but some of those nukemod cockpits really make it shine :D

will there be any possibility for the native freetrack interface to be implemented as well? because freetrack, iirc has plans to move to other operating systems eventually, also there are wiimote drivers for all operating systems it seems. so it may eventually be possible to have head tracking in other operating systems.

I use to remove the dll and use the latest builds but i found what was wrong, to have the track ir to work the pof  need to have a eyepoint set in pcs  :P

That's been a requirement for even just a POV hat to work before.  Guess no one figured to mention that though.

What exactly is trackIr?

TrackIR allows you move the field of view like you would do in reality, means turn your head to the right or left or look up out of your cockpit.
It increases immersion and the feel to be in that cockpit of your ship/ plane/ car/ whatever.

of course you can save money and just use a wiimote + freetrack

So there is a way to enable cockpits is some of the ships in versions beyond 3.6.9?

Using i.e the latest Nightly Build I could, in other words, get cockpits as well with the proper commandline or another mod installed as well?

Anyone who knows please reply here or send me an email to [email protected].

Thanks in advance.

I made a .tbm that enables cockpits on FS2 ships.
I really like flying with cockpit ,but there are some complications.
You should download HTL Zeus from it's release thread and place included tercoc01.dds (along with everything associated with it) in data/maps. This makes HUD transparent and makes flying with cockpit possible.
Then you will most likely want to move eyepoint of GTB Ursa to the bottom pilot because you won't see a thing from the top position. GTF Erynies also have blocked view.
I have everything in mediavps folder ,so all mods using mediavps will have cockpits enabled (of course on stock ships).

@ Dragon:

Thanks for the reply but I've done a search here for HTL Zeus (both with and without caps) and all I'v found is discussions on adding the ship to the SCP.

Thus so far nothing about any cockpit for the ship.

I've got the latest Nightly Build if that helps and if you know how to proceed fromt here please link me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

The latest nightly build is more outdated than the current RC2 build which is in the SCP forum.  I'd use it.

I'll download that one immediately - thanks.

And from there to "virtual cockpit" ?

Another thing... What does "pof" stand for (I'm no programmer so I don't always understand all abbrevations) ?

Parallax Object File.

It's Interplay-owned model format, most known as the model format for Descent series and FreeSpace games. Basically, all 3D objects in this game use this file format.

You guys replied so quickly earlier I'm suprised noone has replyed yet with some sort of walkthrough for Virtual Cockpit.

I've got the AdditionalHTL1-shp.tbm file but I don't know what to do with it when I can't find the HTL Zeus release thread on these forums.

Please help me out here.
