Title: No visible guns

Hey all. Recently loaded up Turey's Installer and am just testing out all the mods I'll be playing in the coming weeks and fixing up the kinks. In Blue Planet I notice that when I fire I can't see my laser beams at all. I can fire and see that nearby capships reflect light from the shots but for me the beams are invisible. They do hit things though, I just can't see them. Am I missing some graphics file or what else could be wrong?

You'll need to use the MediaVPs. Get a mod.ini file from the Blue Planet release thread and place it to \freespace2\blueplanet.

That is, assuming you already have the MediaVPs. If not, get them and place them to \freespace2\mediavps, then get the mod.ini and place it to \freespace2\blueplanet.

Hey thanks that did the trick.

I'm having a different problem with BP now and I don't want to load up this forum with every little kink I run into. Namely I'm on mission 2 or 3 and in the Mars-Jupiter asteroid felt and am encountering EXTREME slowdown. The game doesn't crash, it just slows down to a crawl. I went to the launcher and turned off all the special little lighting effects and all the high graphics features and that did improve the slowdown a bit but it's still mostly unplayable. I'm also playing as the lowest resolution possible. Anything else I can do to get this mission up to normal speed? I'm pretty sure it's the asteroids themselves, if I turn away from the field's interior I can fly normally but the minute I turn towards the asteroid field's interior things go to a crawl again.

If you have the 3.6.10 MediaVPs, the slowdowns are definitely caused by the asteroids (this will be fixed once the final version of the 3.6.10 MediaVPs is released). A guaranteed solution for now is to switch to the 3.6.8 MediaVPs. Other solutions include turning off environment maps and mipmapping from the Launcher (Features tab, select Graphics from the drop-down menu).

This bug only occurs on missions with asteroids while using the 3.6.10 MVPs, as Lobo said.

You can switch back to them after that mission.

That's a relief. When I installed new RAM and still I couldn't play asteroid missions . . . I thought I couldn't continue FreeSpace's graphical evolution.  ;)
