It's been a while since I posted on HLP, so understand if it's new to me that the retail freespace is no longer available for free.
Is there any way to get the original HUD back to your pilot profile that was in retail? Since I installed FSO, when I click "reset" in the HUD config screen it just makes the whole HUD a hideous shade of green. Is there any way to change it back to the retail HUD (which was mostly white with the EMS yellow)?

I think you can just toggle the hud colours in the options menu. I'm not too sure of this so ...
-
At the bottom left of the HUD config screen, you can use the left and right arrows to page through the preset HUD color schemes.

That's the thing. I have none.

tweak the colors yourself? i remember from the retail days of having the green scheme.
-
Really? Nobody remembers this HUD?

amber with white shields. you must have customized it your self and thought it default.
-
That's not my screenshot, though. That's the one from gamespot in the retail freespace. I'm pretty sure that's the one in the shareware (the one with all of act 1 missions) version too.

Its not that hard to make yourself you know.
-
eurgh. cant say honestly anymore.
-
Well making it myself isn't a problem. Still, just wondering why the default I get here is different than the default I used to have when I played Retail
-
Just looked at a couple of old screenshots and that's what my HUD looked like too.
-
That's what my HUD's always looked like out of the box, too. I was just happy to escape the GREEEEEN that was the FS1 HUD. :p
-
That green was waaayy to vibrant for my taste. :p

Check the following:
FreeSpace 2\data\players
There should be three files marked hud_1.hcf, hud_2.hcf, and hud_3.hcf. Those are the configuration files for the HUD colors. Accessible via the HUD configuration screen. If they aren't present...we can send them to you or something like that. They are just text files with color values inside.
-
nope, not there. Just the one I created for the new HUD I made myself. Nothing else.
You don't have to send it to me now, as i'm much more satisfied with my new blue HUD :pimp:

Press "F2", go to "HUD CONFIG" at the bottom of your screen you have 3 options, Amber, Green, and Blue. BESIDE those options, there are two arrow keys. Click on one of the keys until you come to what you see above.
My HUD has always looked like that, FS2 or FSOpen. Not sure why yours is any different.

Yeah, I know what it is you're talking about. you don't have to explain it to me :P
The thing is, when I click the arrows, nothing happens. It's just blank. At least now that I have my current HUD saved, in which case I see that when I click the arrows, but still nothing else.

Eh, wierd. I have about three options with the arrow buttons, though all I remember is that the hud generally gets darker and some things turn red. I don't know why you wouldn't have the default hud. You must have deleted something by accident or something like that. But whatever, if your blue hud works then cool.

FS1 Had the vibrant green HUD
Freespace 2: Colossus (demo of FS2) also had the vibrant green hud.
Freespace 2 Retail, the full version, which I have from the box, has this hud:

Yeah, the Shareware version bundled with a certain Logitech joystick had that HUD too.
EDIT: Wait, the shareware version is Freespace 2: Colossus. I remember having that HUD in that version as well...

I can't BELIEVE you guys hate the green so much. It's the only HUD for me. :p
-
doesn't work with the teal afterburners especially. :ick:

In the upper left hand corner of the HUD option screen, there are three bars. Slide the toggle bar up and down to change the colour of the HUD box selected, or the whole HUD configuration.
