Whatever happened to it? The description was so awesome........

It never really got off the ground AFAIK. Lots of talented people who were involved either left or just faded out of the modding scene. Plus a lot of it was slated for "when this or that project is finished" (most notably BWO) and very few of those projects actually got finished.

Paradigm Shift was basically me coming up with a FreeSpace sequelish idea and kind of running with the concept in my head for a while. I still have all of the stuff that I wrote about it including a full complement of ships and concepts on what everything should look and feel like.
I really jumped the gun on it...I figured BWO would be finished and a few people might be interested in picking it up. That didn't happen...we're still working on BWO so no Paradigm Shift for now. There is interest in picking it up sometime in the future if people are interested in looking into it. It'd need a bigger team than the BWO team.
Anyways...thats for future consideration.
