Hi guys
Travelling to USA next year (Jan/Feb timeframe), wondered if anyone here has any must see destinations on the east coast (although will be flying in/out of LA, so anything around there would probably be good as well).
Cheers for any advice!

In jan/fed? Florida... :P

Which airport?
-
Los Angeles International Terminal 2
-
Any city on the California coast is pretty good, especially since you're in the LA/Long Beach area anyway.

Silly me, thinking that states were more important than cities. :S

Uh... you're flying into and out of Los Angeles and you want to tour the East Coast?
You sure you don't mean the West Coast, or are you going to cross the country?
-
That would actually be a really cool trip. Start in LA, end in New York. Might have to do that one day :D Although given the choice I'd pick SF as a starting point instead - For one thing it's a far more interesting city than LA, plus you can hit Yosemite on the way east without taking much of a detour.
-
The Exits!
Sorry, don't really feel that way, but I just couldn't resist ;)

If you're interested in historical stuff there's plenty of stuff to do in most of the major East Coast cities (colonial era, civil war, etc.). Washington, DC comes to mind of course. Charleston (Fort Sumter, et al) and most of the rest of the Carolina coast has a lot if interesting stuff to offer. Depending on how far inland you're planning on going, I hear Philadelphia has some good spots (never been myself).
I enjoyed Washington, DC and Charleston, South Carolina very much. Washington for the history and museums.
Of course there's always New York. I've never been but I'd love to go, if only to see/hear the New York Philharmonic.
-
You can hit up Philly if you want to do the whole Independence Hall/Liberty Bell/birthplace of America bit. The relatively-new National Constitution Center is a pretty cool stop, as is the US Mint. Plus, you can acquaint yourself with the best of our local cuisine: soft pretzels and Philly cheesesteaks. :D
-
I can help you with destinations in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington.
Mongoose: You're in Philly? Where? We should get together some time. :D
-
I live in Nashville, Tennessee.
Don't bother.
-
Colorado has some nice sking, if you're into that kind of thing.
-
I second New York and DC. A friend and I drove there (from Texas) over the summer, it was a good trip. :)
Also, if you ever find yourself in Texas, the Alamo is worth checking out.

That's four of us now, counting me and Mad Bomber

Find a major interstate in LA and drive north. keep going until you see gates and armed guards with their backs to you. continue into Canada. stay awhile. don't bother going north from the east coast - there's nothing to see. :p

I'm actually out in Bucks County, but it's just 45 minutes or so of driving to Center City.
-
From Raleigh, NC.
you can skip us without missing anything.
-
I'll agree on skipping Raleigh and its surrounding burbs, but definitely see Wilmington, Duck, and Roanoke.

You guys should check in the "HLP USA" thread here>

Sounds like you could well end up pulling it off this time

Are there any Bushvilles in the US yet? If so take some pics for us. :p

Cheers for all the comments guys!
Final arrangements have (almost) been made, and it currently looks like:
Charleston, SC until 1st of Feb
Orlando/Titusville for 2/3 days somewhere before leaving charleston (this is much more complex than it seems - how do you actually GET there without driving or spending almost $500?)
Washington from 2-7th/Feb
Philidelphia from 7th-9th (gotta see the worlds largest Pipe Organ )
NYC from 9th/Feb to 14/Feb
LA from 14Feb to 15/Feb (then home!)
If anyone wants to meet up along the way, I'd be more than willing to (as long as it's arranged in advance).
I leave on Wednesday! :excited:

I can show you around during that weekend in Philadelphia. Heck I can even help you to get to New York that Sunday, since I have to be up there by the morning of the 9th anyway. I could take a day off during the week to go to Manhattan, too; whatever works best for you.
We don't know too much about you, though... I can't remember running into you on any of the hosted projects.

Funny, I'll be in Orange County just outside of LA the weekend of Feb 14th as well.

Make that Miami and I'm in. :P If you decide on Miami, your best choice would probably be going into Fort Lauderdale (KFLL). You can get to most of the Ft.Laud/North Miami Beach hotels that way.

No, I haven't been hanging around long (probably only a year - and I lurked for a bit longer than that), and I'm not familiar enough with the codebase to really do anything to it - I did have a look at weapon rearm limiting, but I think karajorma had some changes he wanted to make first. Also had a brief look at HUD, but that code is a quite bit more complex and spread out - and someone else is already working on it
Do love the game and the mods though.
Would be great to meet up in Philidelphia.
Are you flying from NYC to LA?
Yep

It's a very quick visit to see the Walt Disney Concert Hall (and I'm bummed out that can't going inside :( )
I'm trying to figure out transport to Titusville atm... it is a lot harder than I would have thought.
Bob-san: Might not make it as far south as Miami, but still organising those few days in the middle, so will see what happens!

Ok. I will be free daily after ~3PM, free all-day Fri/Sat/Sun. Trust me--Miami will be nice and warm.

It's 45C (113F) outside atm here in Perth. Warm is not a problem :p

Compared to most of the rest of the USA...
It's 1:40AM here, and it's 60F. We're in the middle of a cold spell. :wtf:

Wow, have fun in SC. Don't bring up the War of Northern Aggression.
