I had mentioned to Galemp a while ago that I think the Loki, Zeus, and Seraphim could use better shield status animations in the HUD. I don't know if it's got any attention by the Media VP or if someone would like to to something like that on their own. Just a suggestion since I can't do anything art related besides stick figures.
-
I personally don't like how with most ship shield HUD animations that the shield seems merged with the hull of the ship. I think it'd be better if the shield was separated completeley from the hull in those icons.
Or is it just the Loki, Zeus and Seraphim alone? :wtf:
-
I know what you mean phreak. Those three in particular are probably the worst shield ANI's around. They barely look like the actual ships they represent while the rest are quite accurate.
-
I actually tried to fix this and make new ANIs, by using overhead shots of the HTL models.
Unfortunately I guess the palette was off, because the result looked a lot like a fine mist when I tried to use it in game.
I think I'll leave this to someone who actually knows how to make shield ANIs in the future. (Though my weapon icon ANIs turned out OK at least...)
-
I'll take a look at it, since I just recently had to go trough the process for the shield ani for the Rhea. I would be even more motivated, if it would speed up the release of ST:R ;7

I've succesfully made sheild anis with that method, you just have to get the pallete and image size (all sheild anis are the same size) from one that's already done.

Ok, I got distracted by something shiny along the way, but now I've found some time to have a look at this.
So these would be the offending ANIs (zoomed 250% for viewing comfort)

I never really noticed but you're right, those are quite hideous. I take it though, that we're happy with the shield bubble, just not with the ship itself ?
So here's a quick preview of how it would look like, if we take a top-down render from the :v: POF as a starting point (compared to the old one, again at 250% zoom)

Is this more or less what you we're going for ?

Yea, thats perfect

[pervert] YES.... YES.... OH, YES! [/pervert]

Much better

Is it just me, or is the only thing that does not really suck about Silent Threat the "Darkside" (M10) soundtrack?
-
The soundtrack, while being cool, is improperly defined in music.tbl so it will skip around alot.

Well the Loki and Zeus were fine additions. The missions were kinda fun but not really developed too much. Its a shame that M10 had to be pulled out. Do we have a high quality version of that yet?
-
any more word on this?
-
We're on the verge of release now - is this done? If so we'll stick it in, but we won't hold up the VPs further for it. It's been held up for teeny tiny things long enough now. ;)
-
I plan to finish this during this weekend, soon enough for you ?
-
sure.
-
sure.
It's nice to have your approval, but I was actually replying to VA ;)

These take no time, here.

Oh cool, thanks - those should do then. :)
Committed.
-
Ah, BW beat me to it. Most excellent
-
sweet, thanks.
.... these go in the HUD, folder, right? :nervous:
-
Tried these out the other day, good work :)
-
About time someone made a fix.
Nope, I'm stumped on this.
-
I always thought the shield icons were made from early concept art and not from the ships themselves.
-
So...these go where now?
Specifically.
-
They are included with the new media vp release (see the sticky thread), so you don't need to do anything with the files posted in this thread.
-
Oh wow, so the new MediaVPs did do something productive for the game.

From what I've heard, you have no idea.

:wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
"This is blasphemy! This is madness!"
"Madness?! This! Is! SPARTA!"
Seriously, ALL of the MediaVP content is 'productive' to the game.
-
80% of the game's content is enchanced graphics to make an already good game look more new and appealing to the eye, 15% of it being hidden content unlocked through the source code, and the other 5% things that needed to be fixed since Retail, this is one of them.
-
Fair enough, but I balk at the thought that the remaining 95% of the MediaVPs is not something 'productive.'
My $0.02.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking that's at least a somewhat poor choice of words. But there's been far worse.
-
I know the people who work on the official MediaVPs put all their brainpower into making something great for the community, but when I say that these shield .anis being finally fixed is "productive" over the graphic effects and all that, is that nearly nine years ago something that simple could've been fixed without giving us super sexy Ulysses fighters, Herc Mk. I's and II's, Perseus interceptors, etc, etc, even revamping The Great War into total badassery, and making the game more immersive with internal cockpit models. What I said was a poor choice of words like you said, which is my fault on my part, I have always and will remain to appreciate what everyone here does for this game. I just said that because I no longer have to look at a spaghetti twirl for a Zeus bomber. ;)
-
I honestly never noticed how ugly the retail versions looked myself. I was generally far more concerned about the four bars around the icon than the icon itself. :p
-
Same here. Besides, they're just representations. They didn't need to look perfect. It could be a wireframe diagram of a ship there for all I cared, as long as I could see how my shields are doing. That said, I'm not knocking the improvement in quality. I'm just not paying a lot of attention to it in game.
