Title: Fixing the AF Kato
Post by: ShadowGorrath on November 13, 2008, 05:21:15 pm
Hello,

The Kato fighter has an issue with it's thrusters. The thruster glow can be seen from the front, through the model. Is there any way to fix it?

Shrink the thruster glow size.

You think I haven't tried that?

Change the normals to point backwards?

They do face back.

Only the thruster glows appear through the hull.

This might be a long shot but make sure the thruster normals are normalized.

Please explain that? AFAIK thruster glitches are normal and have plagued different projects for years.

How do you "normalize" something that's already a normal?
:D And pretend you're speaking to the GTD Cube so we all can understand.

The problem is caused by the thruster normal being too long (I confirmed this on another model).  In PCS2, select the thruster, and either just change the normal to 0:0:-1 or hit the normalize button.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be going back sometime to check on some of the fighters I converted in the past with such issues...

For example, You shouldn't be able to see these through the "feet".

Moving them backwards should help a bit.

Maybe, but that's not the cause of the problem.

Fairly well off topic, but the Kato is one of the few ancient mods I really like. It'd be cool to see it HTLed one day.
